Homologous desensitization to prostaglandins in rabbit ileum
American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1987Prostaglandins (PG's) increase short-circuit current (Isc), inhibit NaCl absorption, and stimulate Cl secretion in rabbit ileum. These changes occur with the following PGs; E2, E1, nitrilo-I2 and, to a lesser extent, with A2, D2, and F2 alpha. Arachidonic acid (AA) also stimulates secretion.

Homologous Desensitization of the D1 Dopamine Receptor
Journal of Neurochemistry, 1990Abstract: Preincubation of D384 cells, derived from the human astrocytoma cell line G‐CCM, with dopamine resulted in a time‐dependent attenuation of cyclic AMP responsiveness to subsequent dopamine stimulation. This effect was agonist specific because the prostaglandin E1 (PGE,) stimulation of cyclic AMP of similarly treated cells remained unchanged ...

Hormone-Induced Homologous and Heterologous Desensitization in the Rat Adipocyte*
Endocrinology, 1981We examined the process of desensitization in the isolated rat adipocyte. When adipocytes were exposed to isoproterenol (10(-7) or 10(-5) M) or ACTH (250 mU/ml) for 2 h, there was a marked decline of as much as 77% in response upon restimulation by hormone, as measured by glycerol release or cAMP levels.

Sequestered A431 cell β-adrenoceptors remain functional after homologous desensitization
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1988This study seeks to investigate the functional state of sequestered beta-adrenoceptors in A431 cells which have undergone homologous desensitization. Incubation of cells with isoprenaline under desensitizing conditions caused a reduction (a) in the number of cell surface beta-receptors as measured by 3H-CGP 12,177 binding, and (b) in the extent of ...

Homologous Desensitization of Cultured Chick Kidney Cells to Parathyroid Hormone*
Endocrinology, 1983The development of refractoriness of the cAMP response to PTH in primary cultures of chick kidney cells and recovery from the refractory state was investigated. When cells were preincubated with bovine PTH1-34, complete refractoriness to a subsequent challenge with the hormone developed within 2 h and at hormone concentrations as low as 5 ng/ml.

Homologous desensitization and visualization of the tilapia GnRH type 3 receptor
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2007Two types of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors were found in the pituitary of tilapia (t), named GnRHR type 3 (tGnRHR3) and GnRHR type 1, according to phylogenetic analysis. tGnRHR3 is highly expressed in the posterior part of the pituitary which contains LH and FSH cells.

FSH-Responsive Adenylyl Cyclase in Rat Testes: Desensitization by Homologous Hormone
Archives of Andrology, 1980Injection of high doses of FSH causes a partial desensitization of the FSH-responsive adenylyl cyclase (AC) in adult rat testes. The loss of responsiveness to FSH is dependent on time. Two hours after injection of one dose of human FSH (256 micrograms hFSH-PT2) in vivo, no effect was seen on FSH-stimulated AC activity (Km and maximal activation). After
