FIGNL1 Inhibits Non-homologous Chromosome Association and Crossover Formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Meiotic crossovers (COs) not only generate genetic diversity but also ensure the accuracy of homologous chromosome segregation. Here, we identified FIGNL1 as a new inhibitor for extra crossover formation in rice.

DNA strand exchange in the absence of homologous pairing

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1994
The strand exchange reaction that is widely used for in vitro studies on recombination of DNA molecules is generally presumed to result from a preceding homologous pairing step. With the use of a single-stranded circular DNA and a short homologous linear duplex fragment as substrates in a model strand exchange reaction, it was found that modest ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Chromosome movements promoted by the mitochondrial protein SPD-3 are required for homology search during Caenorhabditis elegans meiosis.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2013
Pairing of homologous chromosomes during early meiosis is essential to prevent the formation of aneuploid gametes. Chromosome pairing includes a step of homology search followed by the stabilization of homolog interactions by the synaptonemal complex (SC)

Entamoeba histolytica Dmc1 Catalyzes Homologous DNA Pairing and Strand Exchange That Is Stimulated by Calcium and Hop2-Mnd1. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Meiosis depends on homologous recombination (HR) in most sexually reproducing organisms. Efficient meiotic HR requires the activity of the meiosis-specific recombinase, Dmc1.

Temperature dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We have studied the properties of A=54 and A=64 isobars at temperatures T \leq 2 MeV via Monte Carlo shell model calculations with two different residual interactions. In accord with empirical indications, we find that the symmetry energy coefficient, b_{

Human Rad51 protein promotes ATP-dependent homologous pairing and strand transfer reactions in vitro.

open access: yesCell, 1996
The human testis Rad51 protein, a structural homolog of E. coli RecA, binds single- and double-stranded DNA and exhibits DNA-dependent ATPase activity.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Telomeres cluster de novo before the initiation of synapsis: a three-dimensional spatial analysis of telomere positions before and during meiotic prophase. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We have analyzed the progressive changes in the spatial distribution of telomeres during meiosis using three-dimensional, high resolution fluorescence microscopy.
