WE read with interest the Editorial by Blowey and Inman (2012) and agree wholeheartedly with their call for hoof trimming protocols to be reconsidered. Cutting the toe at the ‘correct’ length provides a crucial marker for sole thickness and the requirement (or not) for removal of the solar horn in the widely used ‘Dutch’ method.
