A method for the simultaneous determination of pantothenic acid and hopantenic acid in plasma samples was developed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with multiple ion detection. Plasma samples were directly purified without deproteinization on an ion-exchange resin, and the eluate was extracted with ethyl acetate under acidic conditions.

Hopantenic acid is a known nootropic agent with a chemical structure close to that of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). The neurotropic effect of hopantenic acid may occur as a result of binding with δ and κ opioid receptors, modulating acetylcholine secretion, and interacting with dopamine receptors.

Aduvant therapy of depression with hopantenic acid
Medical alphabet, 2022Adequate SSRI monotherapy does not produce a sufficient clinical effect in some patients, and about 30% of patients do not respond to therapy at all. Favorable experience of combined prescription of SSRIs with various nootropic (neuroprotective) agents has been described in the literature. The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy and ...

Summary A reliable and sensitive reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection method was developed and validated for the quantification of hopantenic acid in human plasma. Hopantenic acid, with protocatechuic acid as the internal standard (IS), was extracted from plasma samples using a liquid-liquid ...
