Analytical studies on the chiral separation and simultaneous determination of pantothenic acid and hopantenic acid enantiomers in rat plasma by gas chromatography—mass fragmentography

Biomedical Applications, 1991
The chiral separation and simultaneous determination of D- and L-pantothenic acids and D- and L-hopantenic acids in rat plasma using gas chromatography-mass fragmentography are described. The method is based on deproteinization by ion-exchange resin, extraction with ethyl acetate under acidic conditions, and derivatization to form several interesting ...

Neurotropic, anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties of hopantenic acid: a chemoinformatic analysis of its molecule

Zhurnal Nevrologii I Psikhiatrii Imeni S S Korsakova, 2015
Hopantenic acid is a well-known nootropic drug similar in its chemical structure to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). Neurotropic effects of hopantenic acid act through binding with delta- and kappa opioid receptors, modulation of acetylcholine secretion and relationship with dopamine receptors.

Hopantenic acid beta-glucoside as a new urinary metabolite of calcium hopantenate in dogs.

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 1986
The metabolism of calcium hopantenate (HOPA) was studied in beagle dogs. After oral administration of 14C-labeled HOPA, 25.5% of the administered radioactivity was excreted in the urine within 24 hr, mostly in the form of unchanged drug. The only metabolite, accounting for 4.2% of the radioactivity in the urine, was isolated by HPLC. The metabolite was

Abnormal fatty acid metabolism in patients in hopantenate therapy during clinical episodes

Journal of Chromatography B: Biomedical Sciences and Applications, 1991
Calcium 4-(2,4-dihydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutyramido)butyrate hemihydrate (hopantenate), a cerebral metabolic enhancer used in Japan since 1978, is a homologue of pantothenic acid. Using mass spectrometry, we found urinary excretion of 4-hydroxydodecanedioic acid, 4-hydroxytetradecanedioic acid and a series of 2-hydroxydicarboxylic acids (C8-C14), in ...

Acute encephalopathy with hepatic steatosis induced by pantothenic acid antagonist, calcium hopantenate, in dogs

Liver, 1991
ABSTRACT— In Japan, acute encephalopathy with hepatic steatosis resembling Reye's syndrome has been reported to occur after treatment with the pantothenic acid antagonist, calcium hopantenate. We studied the causal relationship and the pathogenesis in dogs. The agent was administered to seven dogs at increasing doses over a period of 8 weeks. Anorexia,

Pharmacotherapy of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children: the results of a multicenter double-blind placebo-controlled study of hopantenic acid

Zhurnal Nevrologii I Psikhiatrii Imeni S S Korsakova, 2017
To assess the efficacy and safety of hopantenic acid (pantogam) compared to placebo in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, aged from 6 to 12 years, during 4 month in the prospective multicenter comparative double-blind placebo-controlled study in parallel groups. One hundred patients enrolled in the safety ...
