Development of candidate introgression lines using an exotic barley accession (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum) as donor

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 2004
In the present paper, we report on the selection of two sets of candidate introgression lines (pre-ILs) in spring barley. Two BC2DH populations, S42 and T42, were generated by introgressing an accession of Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum (ISR42-8, from Israel) into two different spring barley cultivars, Scarlett (S) and Thuringia (T).

Leaf scald resistance genes in Hordeum vulgare and Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum : parallels between cultivated and wild barley

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 2003
The prerequisite for breeding barley varieties with durable scald resistance is a diversity of genes each with molecular markers for their manipulation in crosses. Here we compare the outcomes of genetic analysis of scald resistance in 5 doubled haploid mapping populations of cultivated barley with 9 third-backcross families that derive from a set of ...

Salinity tolerance of wild barley Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum

Plant Breeding, 2019
AbstractSalinity tolerance of 47 wild barley genotypes and six barley cultivars was evaluated under control and salinity stress (300 mM NaCl) conditions. Shoot and root dry weight (DW), plant height, membrane stability index (MSI), relative water content, survival rate, leaf malondialdehyde (MDA) and proline contents, root and leaf Na, K, Ca and K/Na ...

The Discovery of Resistant Sources of Spring Barley,Hordeum vulgaressp.spontaneum, and Unique Greenbug Biotypes

Journal of Economic Entomology, 2015
The genetic sources for host-plant resistance to the greenbug (Schizaphis graminum Rondani) in barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum) are limited in that only two single dominant genes Rsg1 and Rsg2 are available for the complex of greenbug biotypes.

Variation in photosynthetic efficiency of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. vulgare) landraces

2018
Crop yields are coming under pressure to continue to grow in the face of climate change, competition, disease and pressure to reduce inputs. Photosynthetic efficiency is being targeted for improvement to increase yields. This study examined the variation in parameters of photosynthetic efficiency including canopy structure (leaf length, canopy angle ...

Genome-wide association studies for drought stress tolerance in Ethopian barley (Hordeum Vulgare SSP. Vulgare) : landraces in field and climate chamber conditions

A genetic study of 260 Ethiopian barley accessions using a 50k SNP array revealed three unique clusters, uncorrelated to geographic clusters, underscoring the exceptional diversity of farmer-cultivated barley. Drought tolerance trials identified days to maturity as a key trait under stress, with chromosome 2H harboring most marker-trait associations ...
