Pathological classification of equine recurrent laryngeal neuropathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Recurrent Laryngeal Neuropathy (RLN) is a highly prevalent and predominantly left‐sided, degenerative disorder of the recurrent laryngeal nerves (RLn) of tall horses, that causes inspiratory stridor at exercise because of intrinsic laryngeal muscle ...

Probing Early Particle‐Cell Membrane Interactions via Single‐Cell and Single‐Particle Interaction Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The pre‐internalization phase of endocytosis remains poorly characterized at single‐cell levels. Single‐cell pre‐internalization mechanics are investigated using advanced robotic techniques. Cancer cells exhibit biphasic adhesion – rapid initial binding followed by reinforcement – while fibroblasts show gradual engagement.

Application of the HRE-S to 140 horses with trigeminal-mediated headshaking and the association of clinical signs with diagnosis, therapy, and outcome

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
BackgroundHorses with trigeminal-mediated headshaking (TMHS) exhibit different headshaking patterns (HSPs), electric shock-like jerking, signs of nasal irritation, and painful facial expressions.

Alpha2 Antagonist Vatinoxan Does Not Abolish the Preconditioning Effect of Dexmedetomidine on Experimental Ischaemia–Reperfusion Injury in the Equine Small Intestine

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Pharmacological preconditioning with dexmedetomidine has been shown to ameliorate intestinal ischaemia reperfusion injury in different species, including horses.

Genome-Wide Association Study and Subsequent Exclusion of ATCAY as a Candidate Gene Involved in Equine Neuroaxonal Dystrophy Using Two Animal Models. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Equine neuroaxonal dystrophy/equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy (eNAD/EDM) is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder of unknown etiology. Clinical signs of neurological deficits develop within the first year of life in vitamin E (vitE) deficient ...

Comparison of the Fecal Microbiota of Healthy Horses and Horses with Colitis by High Throughput Sequencing of the V3-V5 Region of the 16S rRNA Gene

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The intestinal tract houses one of the richest and most complex microbial populations on the planet, and plays a critical role in health and a wide range of diseases. Limited studies using new sequencing technologies in horses are available.

Cell‐Delivering Injectable Hydrogels with Tunable Microporous Structures Improve Therapeutic Efficacy for Volumetric Muscle Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an injectable hydrogel with tunable microporosity to improve mesenchymal stem cell delivery for volumetric muscle loss treatment. Mesenchymal stem cells encapsulated in porous hydrogels significantly promote the spreading, proliferation, and cytokine secretion of mesenchymal stem cells.

The Hierarchical Structure of Sheep Wool and Its Impact on Physical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sheep wool, a prevalent α‐keratinous fiber, is an essential model for studying protein‐based fibers. Its genetic diversity across breeds enables the establishment of multiscale structure‐property relationships, uncovering previously elusive insights into wool's hierarchical structure.
