Host-guest complexes – Boosting the performance of photosensitizers
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2020In this review, we will show the diversity of supramolecular host-guest complexes of cyclodextrins, cucurbit[n]urils, calix[n]- and pillar[n]arenes with photosensitizers, like porphyrins and phthalocyanines. Host-guest complexes are one of the main building blocks in supramolecular chemistry.

Solvent effects on host-guest complexation
Journal of Solution Chemistry, 1994Complex formation between 15-crown-5 and malononitrile was studied in twelve solvents by calorimetry. Thermodynamic parameters for the crown ether adduct were determined and used in a LFER analysis to ascertain the solvent effects on the complexation process. Enthalpy of solution data show that malononitrile is solvated by electron pair donation by the

Host–guest complexation driven dynamic supramolecular self-assembly
Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2013Host-guest complexation between pillararene trimer 1 and biviologen 2 was used to fabricate the dynamic supramolecular self-assembly, which exhibits a reversible multidimensional transformation from 0D to 3D upon concentration changes. As a comparison, assemblies built by the complexation between 1,4-dimethoxypillar[5]arene and 2 only show spherical ...

A Semiconducting Organic Radical Cationic Host–Guest Complex
ACS Nano, 2012The self-assembly and solid-state semiconducting properties of single crystals of a trisradical tricationic complex composed of the diradical dicationic cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) (CBPQT(2(•+))) ring and methyl viologen radical cation (MV(•+)) are reported.

Tunable Nanosupramolecular Aggregates Mediated by Host–Guest Complexation
Angewandte Chemie, 2016AbstractNanosupramolecular assemblies with controlled topological features have inventive applications in fundamental studies and material manufacturing. Herein, a variety of morphologically interesting aggregates have been constructed using the supramolecular modulation with bipyridinium‐modified diphenylalanine derivative (BP‐FF). Benefiting from the

Tailoring Polymeric Hydrogels through Cyclodextrin Host–Guest Complexation
Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2010AbstractA close correllation between molecular‐level interactions and macroscopic characteristics of polymer networks exists. The characteristics of the polymeric hydrogels assembled from β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) and adamantyl (AD) substituted poly(acrylate)s can be tailored through selective host–guest complexation between β‐CD and AD substituents and ...

Pillar[6]arene-Based Photoresponsive Host–Guest Complexation
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2012The trans form of an azobenzene-containing guest can complex with a pillar[6]arene, while it cannot complex with pillar[5]arenes due to the different cavity sizes of the pillar[6]arene and the pillar[5]arenes. The spontaneous aggregation of its host-guest complex with the pillar[6]arene can be reversibly photocontrolled by irradiation with UV and ...

Host-guest complexation. 38. Cryptahemispherands and their complexes.
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1986Syntheses and crystal structures are reported for a new class of hosts, their complexes, and their precursors. The cryptahemispherands are composed of molecular modules that are half spherand and half cryptand. They were synthesized by the reactions of diacid chloride and cyclic diamines to produce diamides, reduction of which gave the desired hosts ...

Computer Simulations of Host-Guest Complexes
1990The use of computer simulation procedures to model the behaviour of hydrocarbons and similar guest species in zeolites and other microporous materials is discussed. The prediction of the location of solute molecules, and the estimation of heats of adsorption and activation energies for diffusion by molecular mechanics (MM) procedures, are described. In
