Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Genomic profiling of cefotaxime-resistant Haemophilus influenzae from Norway and Sweden reveals extensive expansion of virulent multidrug-resistant international clones

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Cefotaxime-resistant Haemophilus influenzae (CRHI) are a global concern, but little is known about their molecular epidemiology. The goal of this study was to perform genomic profiling of 191 CRHI from Norway (n = 183) or Sweden (n = 8) (2006–2018) and ...

Lipopolysaccharide uptake is augmented in lipopolysaccharide‐tolerant mouse macrophage‐like cells via increased CD14 expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

The Insidious Threat: Assessing the Dangers and Spread of Tomato Leaf Curl New Delhi Virus [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Pathology Journal
Begomoviruses have significantly threatened many important crops worldwide, causing substantial issues for years. New viruses from this genus are frequently identified, displaying increasingly harmful traits. Among the numerous species within this group,

At the frontier; RXLR effectors crossing the Phytophthora -host interface

open access: yes, 2011
Plants are constantly beset by pathogenic organisms. To successfully infect their hosts, plant pathogens secrete effector proteins, many of which are translocated to the inside of the host cell where they manipulate normal physiological processes and ...

Evolutionary and proximate mechanisms shaping host-parasite interactions : the case of "Daphnia magna" and its natural bacterial parasite "Pasteuria ramosa" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Host-parasite interactions are composed of a sequence of steps, all necessary for successful infection: parasites need to encounter their hosts, to enter into their bodies, and to proliferate within them. Selection will act on the mechanisms used in each

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Emergence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci from vancomycin-susceptible enterococci in hospitalized patients under antimicrobial therapy

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
: Objectives: Enterococci are opportunistic pathogens with plastic genomes that evolve, acquire, and transmit antimicrobial-resistant determinants such as vancomycin resistance clusters.

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).
