Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Diet quality determines interspecific parasite interactions in host populations [PDF]
The widespread occurrence of multiple infections and the often vast range of nutritional resources for their hosts allow that interspecific parasite interactions in natural host populations might be determined by host diet quality. Nevertheless, the role

Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Involvement of cathepsin B in the plant disease resistance hypersensitive response
A diverse range of plant proteases are implicated in pathogen perception and in subsequent signalling and execution of disease resistance. We demonstrate, using protease inhibitors and virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS), that the plant papain cysteine ...

Interactive effects of protein nutrition, genetic growth potential and heligmosomoides bakeri infection pressure on resilience and resistance in mice [PDF]
The ability of animals to cope with an increasing parasite load, in terms of resilience and resistance, may be affected by both nutrient supply and demand.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Background The recent emergence of Plasmodium falciparum parasites harbouring kelch 13 mutations associated with artemisinin partial resistance (ART-R) in sub-Saharan Africa is a major concern. Regular molecular epidemiological surveys are recommended to

Powdery mildews, obligate biotrophic fungal parasites on a wide range of important crops, can be controlled by plant resistance (R) genes, but these are rapidly overcome by parasite mutants evading recognition.

Plant sulphur nutrition influencing host-plant selection and performance of insect herbivores [PDF]
In the past several years, sulphur (S) deficiencies in agricultural crops have been reported with increasing frequency and therefore more interest has been directed into plant nutrition and fertilisation with particular respect to this element.
