HOST SPECIFICITY OF FIG WASPS (AGAONIDAE) [PDF]
For the development of seeds, the figs (Ficus spp.) are dependent upon small chalcidoid wasps of the family Agaonidae. No other means of pollination of fig flowers is available to the plant, and the wasps cannot develop anywhere except in the gall flowers of the fig.2 There has been considerable difference of opinion as to the degree of host ...

Host-parasite fluctuating selection in the absence of specificity [PDF]
Fluctuating selection driven by coevolution between hosts and parasites is important for the generation of host and parasite diversity across space and time. Theory has focused primarily on infection genetics, with highly specific ‘matching allele’

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Transcriptome analysis of Azospirillum lipoferum during its interaction with rice [PDF]
The associative symbiosis between Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria of the genus Azospirillum and cereals have mainly been studied from an agronomic and economic point of view, and several studies showed that plant morphological and metabolic changes ...

The host-range tdCE phenotype of Chandipura virus is determined by mutations in the polymerase gene [PDF]
The emerging arbovirus Chandipura virus (CV) has been implicated in epidemics of acute encephalitis in India with high mortality rates. The isolation of temperature-dependent host-range (tdCE) mutants, which are impaired in growth at 39 °C in chick ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Radical Host-Specific Therapies for TB [PDF]
Although proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF are critical for containment of tuberculosis, they can also exacerbate disease when produced at high levels. In this issue of Cell, Roca and Ramakrishnan demonstrate that high TNF production induces reactive oxygen species in infected macrophages, ultimately leading to macrophage necrosis and bacterial ...

Touch-stimulation increases host-seeking behavior in Steinernema Carpocapsae. [PDF]
Previous research demonstrated that Steinernema carpocapsae infective juveniles (IJs) exposed to a host cuticle were more attracted toward certain host-associated volatile odors.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
