Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

The morphological and physiological traits of Cucumis sativus- Phelipanche aegyptiaca association affected by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi symbiosis

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2021
The plant symbiotic fungi, Arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM), increases host competency and causes partial control of Egyptian broomrape Phelipanche aegyptiaca (Orobanchaceae).

Salmonella enterica serovar typhi limits the potency of typhoid toxin and ADP‐ribosylating toxin AB to establish a persistent infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The two catalytic subunits of typhoid toxin dissociate from the holotoxin in the ER of an intoxicated cell, but only CdtB exits the ER to generate immunosuppressive effects. PltA is retained in the ER and sequestered from its cytosolic target, thus allowing the anti‐inflammatory effects of CdtB to promote intestinal colonization.

A missing dimension in measures of vaccination impacts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Immunological protection, acquired from either natural infection or vaccination, varies among hosts, reflecting underlying biological variation and affecting population-level protection.

Resistance of different almond cultivars/genotypes to almond fruit wasp, Eurytoma amygdali (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae)

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2021
Resistance of eight almond genotypes/cultivars, including Sefid, Mamaei, Rabie, Shahrood7, Ferragnes, Shahrood13, Nonpareil, and Hooreh, to almond fruit wasp (AFW) Eurytoma amygdali Enderlein, was investigated using choice and no-choice tests.

The C‐terminal domain of yeast Arginyltransferase1 is essential for its catalytic activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Arginyltransferase 1 (Ate1), a eukaryotic enzyme, catalyses arginylation, transferring arginine from tRNA‐Arg to the amino terminus of the target protein. Overexpression of Ate1 in yeast is lethal and is dependent on arginylation. This study elucidates how mutations in the cofactor‐binding and active site of Ate1 and truncation of its structural ...

The entomopathogenic nematode Heterorhabditis megidis: host searching behaviour, infectivity and reproduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Entomopathogenic nematodes in the families Heterorhabditidae and Steinernematidae have considerable potential as biological control agents of soil-inhabiting insect pests.
