Development of Sustainable Cellulose Acetate‐Based Filaments for 3D Printing Through Plasticization and Natural Wax Incorporation

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the forest‐derived filament production for 3D‐printing. ABSTRACT The integration of renewable biopolymers into value‐added engineering applications has become more critical. Cellulose acetate (CA) is a naturally derived polymer and widely used in the design‐oriented optical industry.

Mechanical and Impact Response of Adhesively Bonded ASA/PA12 Sandwich Structures Produced by Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Adhesively bonded ASA/PA12 FFF sandwich structures reveal that interfacial compliance governs mechanical performance. Cyanoacrylate enhances strength but induces brittle failure, while polyurethane improves ductility and impact resistance, demonstrating that adhesive properties and stacking sequence are critical design parameters for optimizing multi ...

Performance Evaluation of Compression‐Molded Recycled Mixed Plastic Fractions From Light Packaging

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Mixed HDPE/PP bottle‐cap waste was successfully processed through closed‐loop mechanical recycling. The recycled blends maintained stable thermal, rheological, and mechanical performance over multiple cycles, demonstrating the feasibility of valorizing heterogeneous polyolefin waste without advanced polymer separation.

Enhancing PET Printability via Solid‐State Polymerization: Structure‐Processing‐Properties Relationships

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Solid‐state polymerization (SSP) enhances rheological properties, filament stability, and adjusts crystallization issues for improved PET 3D printability. ABSTRACT This paper aims to investigate the impact of solid‐state polymerization (SSP) on the printability of PET for 3D printing.

Curling Suppression by Adhesive Tape Enables Direct Processing of Thin Polymer Strips

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Machining‐based approch for processing of polymer strip: A simple adhesive tape applied to the workpiece surface suppresses severe chip curling, enabling the single‐step production of flat, straight polymer strips. ABSTRACT Thin polymer strips and films are critical components in flexible electronics, packaging, and energy storage systems, yet their ...

Effects of Multiple Mechanical Recycling Loops on the Material Properties of Liquid Silicone Rubber

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical recycling of liquid silicone rubbers was investigated by grinding LSR production waste to small pieces, which are then used as filler in new products with varying percentages of recycled content. Four consecutive reprocessing cycles showed that multiple mechanical recycling loops are possible without significant loss of material performance.

Oxidative Stability and Rheological Features in Recycled Composites Based on Postconsumer Polypropylene and Antioxidant‐Loaded Silicas

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Role of antioxidant supported on MCM‐41 and nano‐silica in enhancing oxidation induction time (OIT) and nucleation performance. ABSTRACT Plastic recycling efforts are hindered by the reduction of material properties in recyclates stemming from oxidative degradation of their polymeric chains.
