Hot Wire Liquid-Level Indicator [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 1956
The theory of the method of measurement of liquid level by measurement of the resistance of a heated wire is developed, and it is applied to the design of a liquid-nitrogen-level indicator having a power dissipation of 3.4 mw/in. of length and a deviation from linearity in the calibration of less than 0.1 in. over its working length of 2.0 in.

Hot-wire anemometry in hypersonic helium flow [PDF]

open access: yes
Hot-wire anemometry techniques are described that have been developed and used for hypersonic-helium-flow studies. The short run time available dictated certain innovations in applying conventional hot-wire techniques. Some examples are given to show the

Multistackable, Domino‐Overlapped CNT Scaffolds Homogeneously Hybridized with BTO‐P(VDF‐TrFE) for High‐Performance Piezoelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multilayer‐stackable carbon nanotuber (CNT) scaffold‐based piezoelectric nanogenerator (CPENG) with domino‐patterned CNT pillars presents high, stable output (12.3 V, size of 1 cm × 1 cm) over 2000 cycles, operates across a wide temperature range, and efficiently converts energy from real‐life stimuli through optimized CNT length, layer stacking, and

Proteins, Processing, and Properties of Adhesive Fluid Condensates Purified from Mussels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mussels exhibit an unmatched proficiency for adhering to wet surfaces in salty environments—a remarkable ability that could inspire new biomedical and technical glues. The fluid protein condensates used to form the underwater mussel glue are extracted, reconstituted and characterized with advanced spectroscopy and nanomechanical analysis, revealing ...

A suggested method for measuring turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes
The desirability of a quantitative measure of turbulence is emphasized, and a possible method of attack on the problem is discussed. Data are presented to show that the hot-wire anemometer has possibilities as an instrument for measuring turbulence.

Upcycling of Disposable Face Masks into Water‐Resistant and Flame Retardant Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Disposable mask waste is upcycled into lightweight polypropylene‐based foams with tunable porosity and composite architectures reinforced by ear‐loop fibers. The sustainable solvent‐based process enables upcycling rates of 91% and solvent recovery of >90%.

Study of hot wire techniques in low density flows with high turbulence levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Prediction of heat, mass, species, and momentum fluxes in a space vehicle and aerodynamic noise production by supersonic jet and rocket exhausts requires a predictability of the associated turbulence fields. The hot wire is a technique that will allow an

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Numerical simulation of the flow topology over NREL’s S807 airfoil at different models of turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Current numerical simulations investigate subsonic flow around the NREL’s S807 airfoil without an incident angle at Reynolds numbers near 2.8∙105. This work is devoted to the assessment application of various turbulence models for a numerical simulation ...
