A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Stress coping strategies — novel markers in the diagnosis of masked hypertension in young people

open access: yesКардиоваскулярная терапия и профилактика
Aim. To establish the prevalence and markers of masked hypertension (HTN) in apparently healthy young people.Material and methods. The cross-sectional study included young people (20-30 years old) with health group I or II, with clinical blood pressure ...

Mutant loxP vectors for selectable marker recycle and conditional knock-outs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
BACKGROUND: Gene disruption by targeted integration of transfected constructs becomes increasingly popular for studies of gene function. The chicken B cell line DT40 has been widely used as a model for gene knock-outs due to its high targeted integration

Effects of total knee arthroplasty on markers of muscle damage two hours after surgery (1102.33)

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2014
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) results in rapid muscle atrophy, decreased strength, and functional mobility limitations. Our prior reports on the acute effects of ischemia and reperfusion during TKA suggests decreased protein synthesis, increased protein degradation, and activation of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response in skeletal muscle ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Biomarkers Beyond the Natriuretic Peptides for Chronic Heart Failure: Galectin-3 and Soluble ST2. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and NT-proBNP are widely used plasma biomarkers for the diagnosis of acute decompensated heart failure and prognosis for future cardiac disease.

Platelet Apoptosis in Adult Immune Thrombocytopenia: Insights into the Mechanism of Damage Triggered by Auto-antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Mechanisms leading to decreased platelet count in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) are heterogeneous. This study describes increased platelet apoptosis involving loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), caspase 3 activation (aCasp3) and ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Modelling obstructive sleep apnea susceptibility using non-invasive inflammatory biomarkers

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2017
Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is considered systemic inflammatory disease but airway and systemic inflammatory markers roles in OSA prediction are not widely used in sleep clinics.

Relationship between the peroxidation of leukocytes index ratio and the improvement of postprandial metabolic stress by a functional food [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
For the first time, we investigated the relationship between postprandial dysmetabolism and the Peroxidation of Leukocytes Index Ratio (PLIR), a test that measures the resistance of leukocytes to exogenous oxidative stress and their functional capacity ...
