Ergothioneine supplementation improves pup phenotype and survival in a murine model of spinal muscular atrophy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.

Predicting the Blood-Brain Barrier Permeability of New Drug-Like Compounds via HPLC with Various Stationary Phases

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The permeation of the blood-brain barrier is a very important consideration for new drug candidate molecules. In this research, the reversed-phase liquid chromatography with different columns (Purosphere RP-18e, IAM.PC.DD2 and Cosmosil Cholester) was ...

Developing an Analytical Method for Separating and Quantifying RNA Generated in In Vitro Transcription Reactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The generation of run-off transcripts from in vitro transcription reactions is a useful technique in the study of transcription regulation. There are currently limited ways in which these run-off transcripts can be analyzed, and few that are truly ...

Cancer cell death induced by the NAD antimetabolite Vacor discloses the antitumor potential of SARM1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacor, a compound converted into the toxic metabolite Vacor adenine dinucleotide (VAD) by the nicotinamide salvage pathway enzymes NAMPT and NMNAT2, exhibits antitumor activity by inducing rapid and complete NAD depletion. We report that Vacor toxicity is limited to cell lines expressing high levels of SARM1, a NAD glycohydrolase.

Pharmacokinetic Study and Incurred Sample Stability of Esomeprazole in Dried Blood Spot Sample Using High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Photodiode Array

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Chemistry, 2020
In the past years, Esomeprazole (EMP) was analyzed in human plasma samples, which still has stability issues; thus, the new biosampling technique known as Dried Blood Spot (DBS) might solve the issue.

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...

Analysis of BKO Content (Antalgin and Dexamethasone) in Herbal Medicine Using Iodimetry Titration and HPLC Method

open access: yesElkawnie: Journal of Islamic Science and Technology, 2020
: Misuse of adding chemical drugs – BKO – into herbal medicines is often done by irresponsible people. The aim is to increase efficacy instantly, to attract consumer interest. BKO, which are often added to herbal medicine, are antalgin and dexamethasone.
