Lysosome Function and Dysfunction in Hereditary Spastic Paraplegias
Hereditary Spastic Paraplegias (HSPs) are a genetically diverse group of inherited neurological diseases with over 80 associated gene loci. Over the last decade, research into mechanisms underlying HSPs has led to an emerging interest in lysosome ...

The primary function of intracellular heat shock proteins (HSPs) is to protect the cell by suppressing the effects of various stress factors by either refolding misfolded proteins or blocking apoptosis. After neoplastic transformation, cells overexpress

Heat shock proteins and the cellular response to osmotic stress [PDF]
In antidiuresis, the intrarenal distribution of HSP25/27, alpha beta -crystallin, HSP72, OSP94 and HSP110 corresponds to the osmotic gradient between cortex and papilla: low amounts in the cortex and high values in the inner medulla and papilla.

Heat stress-induced changes in skeletal muscle: Heat shock proteins and cell signaling transduction
Many researchers have been interested in the effects of heat stress on skeletal muscle. Recently, it has been demonstrated that heat stress on skeletal muscle results in an increase in muscle protein mass and subsequent muscle hypertrophy, and ...

Novel homozygous GBA2 mutation in a patient with complicated spastic paraplegia [PDF]
Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are a heterogeneous group of neurological disorders characterized primarily by a pyramidal syndrome with lower limb spasticity, which can manifest as pure HSP or associated with a number of neurological or non ...

HSP or not HSP… that is the question [PDF]
The authors report on the case of a 10-year-old girl who presented with a vasculitic process primarily involving the skin, joints and kidneys, which was initially presumed to be a variant of Henoch-Schonlein purpura. When the disease process behaved in a more aggressive way than expected, with the rapid onset of acute renal failure, further ...
