Homology of the HSV-2 ?a-sequence? to cellular sequences

Virus Genes, 1988
Bgl-II fragments of the genome of Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) HG-52 were cloned into the vector p-Neo and were used to screen the complete HSV-2 genome for regions cross-hybridizing with the genome of HEL cells. Most extensive cross-hybridizing activity was observed with a 530 bp SstII subfragment of the viral BamHI G DNA-fragment (contained in

Development of a therapeutic vaccine for HSV-2

Vaccine, 2005
A therapeutic vaccine for genital herpes is clearly needed. Vaccines recently developed for HSV-2 in humans have been aimed at eliciting CD4+ T cell responses and neutralizing antibody responses to two HSV-2 glycoproteins (gB and gD). These vaccines have had no therapeutic effect against HSV-2 in human clinical trials.

VAGINAL IMMUNITY IN THE HSV-2 MOUSE MODEL

International Reviews of Immunology, 2003
Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a sexually transmitted pathogen that infects the genital tract. Efforts to develop vaccines to protect women against this and other sexually transmitted pathogens would be facilitated by a better understanding of the immune mechanisms that protect the female reproductive tract against such infections.

The effect of valacyclovir on HIV and HSV-2 in HIV-infected persons on antiretroviral therapy with previously unrecognised HSV-2

International Journal of STD & AIDS, 2014
In the absence of antiretroviral therapy, valacyclovir may reduce HIV viral load and increase CD4+ T-lymphocyte count. We sought to evaluate the impact of valacyclovir on HIV and HSV-2 in co-infected patients receiving antiretroviral therapy with previously unrecognised HSV-2 infection.

Low-dose acyclovir for HSV-2 meningitis in a child

Acta Paediatrica, 2004
A 7‐y‐old girl with genital herpes following sexual abuse presented with dysuria, fever and meningeal signs. Acyclovir (15 mg/kg/d for 10 d) was administered for severe genitourinary symptoms. The CSF culture was positive for HSV type 2.Conclusion: Complete resolution of all symptoms demonstrates that, as in adults, HSV‐2 meningitis does not require ...

Concomitant herpes genitalis (HSV-2) and herpes meningitis (HSV-2)

Journal of Clinical Images and Medical Case Reports
Concomitant herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) genitalis and meningitis is an uncommon presentation. In this case, a female patient in her twenties, with a recent history of herpes genitalis (HSV-2) lesions, presented with fever, headache, neck pain, and photosensitivity.

Seroprevalence of HSV-1 and HSV-2 in Barbados

Medical Microbiology and Immunology, 2004
Type-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, based upon recombinant glycoprotein G (gG), were used to detect antibodies to HSV-1 and HSV-2, in a small Caribbean island population. A blinded serosurvey was performed on samples from 184 blood donors, 122 pregnant women, and 120 HIV-positive patients. The seroprevalence of HSV-1 and HSV-2 was 81% and

Anti HSV-2 properties of amniotic fluid.

Microbiologica, 1988
Some antiviral properties of amniotic fluid (AF) were studied. A close relationship between maternal blood and AF antiviral antibodies was seen. Substances other than antibodies which could have an effect on viruses were assumed to be present in AF. Using HSV2 as a model, we found a virus-neutralizing activity in 6 out of 7 specimens studied which does
