Dynamic Scenario in HTLV-I Infection

Journal of Applied Nonlinear Dynamics, 2020
Summary: In this article we present a model that describes the emerging dynamic scenario of infection with the human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV-I). In this model we incorporate the phase of latency in the infection of the CD4+ lymphocytes, the immune response mediated by CD8+ T lymphocytes and the possible appearance of adult T-cell leukemia (ATL).

ALS syndrome in HTLV-I infection

Neurology, 2005
Human T-cell lymphotrophic virus (HTLV)-I causes tropical spastic paraparesis/HTLV-I associated myelopathy (HAM/TSP) and may have other neurologic manifestations such as isolated peripheral neuropathy.1 An HTLV-I-associated ALS-like syndrome (ALS-S) has been rarely reported.2 We now describe the features of ALS-S in a cohort of HTLV-I infected ...

The epidemiology of HTLV-I infection

Cancer Causes & Control, 1991
It has been 10 years since the discovery of the human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), the first human retrovirus. During the past decade, significant progress has been made in understanding the transmission of the virus and defining its geographic distribution. It has been shown conclusively that HTLV-I is a causal factor in the induction of

Cell Adhesion Molecules in HTLV-I Infection

Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology, 1996
Cell adhesion molecules expressed on the cell surface of leukemic cells and on vascular endothelial cells may play a key role in trafficking, localization, and infiltration of leukemic cells in adult T-cell leukemia (ATL). The predominant adhesion pathway between ATL cells or human T-cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV-I)-infected cell lines and human ...

Antibody profile of early HTLV-I infection

The Lancet, 1990
To define the antibody profile of early seroconversion in infection with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), consecutive serum samples from 10 subjects presumed to have seroconverted on the basis of the particle agglutination test were studied by three enzyme immunoassays and two confirmatory tests (radioimmunoprecipitation and western ...

Transgenic Mouse Models for HTLV-I Infection

Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology, 1996
Human T-cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV-I) was the first human retrovirus isolated and is responsible for at least one form of human leukemia. The pathogenic mechanism(s) whereby HTLV transforms T lymphocytes in vivo is(are) obscure due to its long-term latency and the lack of practical representative animal models.

Telomerase regulation in HTLV-I infection

Blood, 2008
In this issue of Blood , Bellon and Nicot describe an elegant mechanism used by HTLV-I to up-regulate telomerase gene expression and function in the absence of the viral tax oncoprotein. Adult T-cell leukemia was first reported as an entity in Blood in 1977.[1][1] Three years later, Gallo et ...
