Effect of Thawing Rates and Antioxidants on Semen Cryopreservation in Hu Sheep

Biopreservation and Biobanking, 2021
Hu sheep is a valuable sheep breed in China, and semen cryopreservation of Hu sheep is important for sustainable development of the agri-food industry. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of thawing rate and antioxidants (procyanidins [PC] and mitoquinone [MitoQ]) on the quality and antioxidant enzyme activity of post-thaw sperm in Hu sheep.

Three novel MC4R SNPs associated with growth traits in Hu sheep and East Friesian×Hu crossbred sheep

Small Ruminant Research, 2015
Abstract The melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) is a G-protein coupled receptor superfamily member, which has been implicated in regulating food intake, energy balance and body weight in mammals. Though the mutations of MC4R have been identified as genetic markers for growth traits in many livestock species, little is known about sheep MC4R gene.

Analysis of genetic co-adaptability of structural loci in Hu sheep

HEREDITAS, 2007
Using the method of multiloci electrophoresis, genetic co-adaptability of Hu Sheep was analyzed according to allele frequencies in 14 structural loci. The results showed that no co-adaptability existed in the dominance-dominance model, while co-adaptability was observed in X-p-Cat combination locus of dominance-codominance model and in Po-CA, Po-Cat ...

Reproductive characteristics of Chinese Hu sheep

Animal Reproduction Science, 1996
Abstract The reproductive characteristics of Chinese Hu sheep are reviewed. Male and female lambs reached puberty at a mean age of 120 days and 180 days, respectively, with an average body weight of 18.54 ± 1.48 kg ( n = 31) and 22.75 ± 1.98 kg ( n = 24). Adult male and female sheep reproduced throughout the year. On average, ewes lambed 1.65 times

Changes in lipids and aroma compounds in intramuscular fat from Hu sheep

Food Chemistry, 2022
Intramuscular fat (IMF) content is associated with lamb flavor and largely varies between individuals of the same breed. However, studies investigating the effects of IMF variations on lipid profiles and aroma compounds are limited. Here, we performed lipidomic and volatilomic profiling of high-IMF and low-IMF Hu lambs.

Unconservative_15_2570409 suppresses progesterone receptor expression in the granulosa cells of Hu sheep

Theriogenology, 2020
Female fertility potential depends on the number of mature follicles; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Based on previously generated miRNA and mRNA sequencing data of healthy ovarian follicles (>5 mm in diameter) isolated from Hu sheep with different prolificacy, we investigated the roles of a novel miRNA ...

CREATION OF CONSERVATION AREAS FOR HU SHEEP IN JIANGSU PROVINCE

Animal Genetic Resources Information, 1990
SUMMARYA conservation area in Jiangsu Province, China, has been established for the conservation of the Hu sheep, famous for its early sexual maturity and high reproductive rate as well as its beautifully patterned white-wool coat. Local farmers well experienced in raising these sheep are responsible for pure breeding under the control of ...

Effects of castration on growth performance and pineal gland function of Hu sheep

Domestic Animal Endocrinology
Castration, as a veterinary procedure, can enhance carcass quality, significantly influencing the development of male animals. This study aimed to assess the effect of castration on growth performance and pineal gland function in Hu sheep lambs. Six healthy male Hu sheep were selected and randomly assigned to two groups.

Characterization of a Novel Xylanase Gene from Rumen Content of Hu Sheep

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2015
A novel xylanase gene, xyn-lxy, was cloned from a metagenomic fosmid library, which was previously constructed from the rumen contents of Hu sheep and was functionally characterized in Escherichia coli. The open reading frame was composed of 1923 bp and encoded for 640 amino acids, including a catalytic domain of glycosyl hydrolase family 10 and ...
