Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Hand Gesture Interaction with Human-Computer

open access: yes, 2011
Hand gestures are an important modality for human computer interaction. Compared to many existing interfaces, hand gestures have the advantages of being easy to use, natural, and intuitive.

Swimming the channels: An analysis of online archival reference enquiries

open access: yes
Archives of historical and cultural data, such as the UK’s National Archives, receive huge volumes of enquiries from users. These have been seldom systematically studied, despite the obvious benefits to the organisations concerned and interaction ...

Ethical dilemmas experienced by students in Child–Computer Interaction—A case study

open access: yes, 2021
Although there is an increased focus on the ethical responsibilities of designers when designing children’s technologies, there are few academic examples of what it entails to teach this to design students.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Personalized Visualization of the Gestures of Parkinson’s Disease Patients with Virtual Reality

open access: yesFuture Internet
Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms. Assessment methods, despite the many years of existence of the disease, lack individualized visualization. On the other hand, virtual reality promises immersion

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Enabling Implicit Human Computer Interaction: A Wearable RFID-Tag Reader [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Implicit human computer interaction is based on the concept of using user activity in the real world as input to computers. Implicit HCI can help to reduce the problem of user input to wearable computers.

Dislocated Boardgames: Design Potentials for Remote Tangible Play

open access: yesMultimodal Technologies and Interaction, 2019
Conventional digital and remote forms of play lack the physicality associated with analog play. Research on the materiality of boardgames has highlighted the inherent material aspects to this analog form of play and how these are relevant for the design ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
