Will human-like machines make human-like mistakes?
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2017AbstractAlthough we agree with Lake et al.'s central argument, there are numerous flaws in the way people use causal models. Our models are often incorrect, resistant to correction, and applied inappropriately to new situations. These deficiencies are pervasive and have real-world consequences.

Statistical machine learning is widely used in image classification and typically 1) requires many images to achieve high accuracy and 2) does not provide support for reasoning below the level of classification. By contrast this paper describes an approach called machine learning approach called Logical Vision (LV) which uses a) background knowledge ...

Recommender Interfaces: The More Human-Like, the More Humans Like
2016Social robots, when used for information providing, are able to affect humans’ trustworthiness and willingness to interact with them. In this work, we conducted an experimental study aimed at observing if the users’ acceptance of recommendations, as well as their engagement in the interaction, is elicited when using a humanoid robot with respect to a ...

Tactile sensor for human-like manipulation
2012 4th IEEE RAS & EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob), 2012In this paper the tactile sensor1 recently developed by the authors is experimentally tested in manipulation applications typical of anthropomorphic robotic systems. The paper presents a possible solution for the integration of the sensor in a human-like robotic hand.
