CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Deep undepleted human serum proteome profiling toward biomarker discovery for Alzheimer’s disease

open access: yesClinical Proteomics, 2019
Background Blood-based protein measurement is a routine practice for detecting biomarkers in human disease. Comprehensive profiling of blood/plasma/serum proteome is a challenge due to an extremely large dynamic range, as exemplified by a small subset of

A role for eosinophils in the intestinal immunity against infective Ascaris suum larvae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this study was to explore the mechanisms of resistance against invading Ascaris suum larvae in pigs. Pigs received a low dose of 100 A. suum eggs daily for 14 weeks.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Association Between Neopterin Production and other Parameters in a Population of Blood Donors

open access: yesPteridines, 2002
Neopterin is released from human monocyte-derived macrophages preferentially upon stimulation with the Thlcell cytokine interferon-γ. In humans, increased concentrations of neopterin in serum and urine have been found in viral infections including human ...

Genetic variants of Y chromosome are associated with a protective lipid profile in black men [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objective— Gender and ethnicity modulate the phenotypic expression of cardiovascular risk factors. In particular, men are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases compared to women, whereas black populations of African origin display reduced ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Enhancement of signal intensity of elements in human blood serum using a metal mesh-enhanced CO2 laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy in ambient He gas

open access: yesTalanta Open
Accurate and reliable identification and analysis of the elemental composition of human blood serum is of utmost importance. The present investigation included the analysis of human blood serums for elemental composition using a metal mesh-supported CO2 ...
