The battle between the innate immune cGAS-STING signaling pathway and human herpesvirus infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
The incidence of human herpesvirus (HHVs) is gradually increasing and has affected a wide range of population. HHVs can result in serious consequences such as tumors, neonatal malformations, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as pose an immense ...

The strong enhancer element in the immediate early region of the human cytomegalovirus genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a member of the herpesvirus group, was found to possess a strong transcription enhancer in the immediate early gene region. Co-transfection of enhancerless SV40 DNA with randomly fragmented HCMV DNA yielded two SV40-

Human herpesvirus 6 and human herpesvirus 7 in chronic fatigue syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1995
We analyzed lymphocytes of patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) for the presence of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and HHV-7 DNA. HHV-7 was present in over 80% of CFS patients and healthy controls, while the prevalence of HHV-6 variant A increased significantly in CFS cases (22 versus 4%; P = 0.05).

Evidence for Tethering of Human Cytomegalovirus Genomes to Host Chromosomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2020
Tethering of viral genomes to host chromosomes has been recognized in a variety of DNA and RNA viruses. It can occur during both the productive cycle and latent infection and may impact viral genomes in manifold ways including their protection ...

Kaposi’s sarcoma associated with chronic myeloid leukemia and imatinib mesylate therapy

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2022
Kaposi's sarcoma is associated with immunosuppression and human herpesvirus 8 infection, while rarely described in myeloid malignancies. Here, we illustrate a rare case of chronic myeloid leukemia treated with imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, who ...

Targeting the ATP-dependent formation of herpesvirus ribonucleoprotein particle assembly as an antiviral approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Human herpesviruses are responsible for a range of debilitating acute and recurrent diseases, including a number of malignancies. Current treatments are limited to targeting the herpesvirus DNA polymerases, however with emerging viral resistance and ...

Complete Genome Sequence of Germline Chromosomally Integrated Human Herpesvirus 6A and Analyses Integration Sites Define a New Human Endogenous Virus with Potential to Reactivate as an Emerging Infection

open access: yesViruses, 2016
Human herpesvirus-6A and B (HHV-6A, HHV-6B) have recently defined endogenous genomes, resulting from integration into the germline: chromosomally-integrated “CiHHV-6A/B”.

A systematic review of the impact of psychosocial factors on immunity: Implications for enhancing BCG response against tuberculosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains an urgent global public health priority, causing 1.5 million deaths worldwide in 2018. There is evidence that psychosocial factors modulate immune function; however, how this may influence TB risk or BCG vaccine ...

Bortezomib promotes KHSV and EBV lytic cycle by activating JNK and autophagy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
KSHV and EBV are gammaherpesviruses strictly linked to human cancers. Even if the majority of cancer cells harbor a latent infection, the few cells that undergo viral replication may contribute to the pathogenesis and maintenance of the virus-associated ...

Kaposi’s Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus Increases PD-L1 and Proinflammatory Cytokine Expression in Human Monocytes

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is associated with the human malignancy Kaposi’s sarcoma and the lymphoproliferative disorders primary effusion lymphoma and multicentric Castleman’s disease. KSHV establishes lytic infection of monocytes in
