Hepatic Pathology in Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis: Ehrlichia chaffeensis Infection [PDF]
Ehrlichia chaffeensis causes human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME) that usually includes fever, myalgias, and pancytopenia and, in 80% to 90% of patients, elevations in serum transaminase levels. Thus, the pathology of liver injury was studied in liver tissues from 7 patients with laboratory-confirmed HME.

Effect of storage on the nitro blue tetrazolium reduction test in dog blood samples
Abstract Introduction The nitro blue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction test (NBTT) has been used for measuring the metabolic activity of phagocytes of mammals. Activated neutrophils transform NBT into formazan in the cytoplasm. The NBTT can detect the activation of neutrophils in peripheral blood and is used to assess neutrophil function in dogs.

Western Blot Analysis of Sera Reactive to Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis and Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis Agents [PDF]
ABSTRACT Laboratory diagnosis of human ehrlichioses is routinely made by an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) using cultured ehrlichia-infected whole cells as antigen. Concern has been raised that incorrect diagnoses of human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME) or human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE) may be made on the basis of ...

Background. Human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME) is a potentially life‐threatening tick‐borne illness. HME‐associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare entity with a paucity of published literature regarding treatment and outcome. We present the clinical features, treatment, and outcomes of 4 patients at our institutions with HME ...

Recent concerns have arisen in Australia regarding detections of the exotic bacterium Ehrlichia canis which has resulted in ehrlichiosis outbreaks. In Australia, it is spread by the tropical brown dog tick Rhipicephalus linnaei, formerly Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato tropical lineage.

Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss in Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis [PDF]
The hallmarks of symptomatic human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME) include fever, headache, myalgia, nausea, malaise, transaminitis, and blood cell abnormalities. Previous case reports have described isolated cranial nerve palsies in infected patients but not hearing loss. We describe the onset of sudden sensorineural hearing loss in 2 patients with HME—a

Features of human monocytic ehrlichiosis laboratory diagnostics
Objective. Using the data obtained in Perm Region as an example, to identify the effectiveness of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the diagnosis of Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME) at different periods from the onset of the disease, and to determine the role of HME in the structure of infections transmitted by ixodic ticks using PCR and enzyme ...

Ehrlichiosis Presenting as Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in an Immunocompetent Adult
Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a fatal, immunologic syndrome characterized by dysregulated tissue inflammation. HLH can be either primary or secondary; with the latter typically resulting from an infection. Diagnosis requires five or more of
