Abstract Background and Objectives Pathogen reduction (PR) using amotosalen‐UVA was implemented for 100% of platelet concentrates (PCs) in France in November 2017. No bacterial testing was in place earlier. The impact of PR on the risk of transfusion‐transmitted infections (TTIs) from November 2017 to December 2022 (vs.

Infection with human T‐lymphotropic virus type 1/2 (HTLV‐1/2) is a major health problem. HTLV‐1/2 infection is endemic in Chile but representative donor prevalence data are lacking. Data on all blood donors in a large network of Chilean blood centers were examined during 2011–2013.

Human T-lymphotropic virus 1 and 2 among people who used illicit drugs in the state of Pará, northern Brazil [PDF]
AbstractPeople who used illicit drugs (PWUDs) represent an important population group for acquisition and viral dispersion. In Brazil, high rates of the human T lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1) and 2 (HTLV-2) have been reported in epidemiological studies.

Expansion in CD39(+) CD4(+) Immunoregulatory T Cells and Rarity of Th17 Cells in HTLV-1 Infected Patients Is Associated with Neurological Complications [PDF]
HTLV-1 infection is associated with several inflammatory disorders, including the neurodegenerative condition HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). It is unclear why a minority of infected subjects develops HAM/TSP.

Perceptions of donor screening—Do I always need to tell the truth?
Abstract Background The Donor Health Assessment Questionnaire (DHQ) is fundamental to blood safety. We describe attitudes towards truthfulness among first‐time donors who tested positive for transfusion transmissible infections and those who did not.
