Human T‐Lymphotropic Virus Type 1 and 2 Seroprevalence among first‐time blood donors in Chile, 2011–2013

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, 2015
Infection with human T‐lymphotropic virus type 1/2 (HTLV‐1/2) is a major health problem. HTLV‐1/2 infection is endemic in Chile but representative donor prevalence data are lacking. Data on all blood donors in a large network of Chilean blood centers were examined during 2011–2013.

Post-transcriptional Regulation of HTLV Gene Expression: Rex to the Rescue

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and other members of the Deltaretrovirus genus code for a regulatory protein named Rex that binds to the Rex-responsive element present on viral mRNAs.

Making the invisible visible: searching for human T-cell lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1 and HTLV-2) in Brazilian patients with viral hepatitis B and C

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz
With this study, the authors hope to alert clinicians regarding the presence of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 and 2 (HTLV-1/-2) infections in patients with viral hepatitis B and C in Brazil.

Absence of HTLV-1/2 infection and dermatological diseases in Manaus, State of Amazonas, Brazil

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2014
Introduction The prevalence of human T-cell lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1/2) infection is heterogeneous across different populations. We tested the hypothesis that HTLV-1/2 infection occurs more often in dermatological patients.

Hepatitis C virus/human T lymphotropic virus 1/2 co-infection: Regional burden and virological outcomes in people who inject drugs

open access: yesWorld Journal of Virology, 2016
This review analyses current data concerning co-infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human T lymphotropic virus (HTLV)-1/2 in people who inject drugs (PWID), with a particular focus on disease burden and global implications for virological outcome. In addition, the available treatment options for HTLV-1/2 are summarized and the ongoing and likely

Clonality of HTLV-2 in natural infection.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2014
Human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and type 2 (HTLV-2) both cause lifelong persistent infections, but differ in their clinical outcomes. HTLV-1 infection causes a chronic or acute T-lymphocytic malignancy in up to 5% of infected individuals ...

Bovine Leukaemia Virus Tax Antigen Identification in Human Lymphoma Tissue: Possibility of onco-protein Gene Ttransmission

open access: yesResearch in Molecular Medicine, 2019
Background: Bovine leukaemia virus (BLV) is the cause of enzootic bovine leukaemia which belongs to retroviruses including Human T-cell leukaemia virus and simian T-lymphotropic virus. Due to this familiarity, the possibility of virus (BLV) transfer from
