Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Implementation of a Human-Computer Interface for Computer Assisted Translation and Handwritten Text Recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A human-computer interface is developed to provide services of computer assisted machine translation (CAT) and computer assisted transcription of handwritten text images (CATTI). The back-end machine translation (MT) and handwritten text recognition (HTR)

A Proposed Model for Assessing the Quality of English Translated Literary Texts into Arabic

open access: yesالآداب للدراسات اللغوية والأدبية
This study aimed to propose a model for assessing the quality of English-to-Arabic literary translations, addressing significant limitations in existing translation quality assessment (TQA) models (e.g. House, 1997, 2015; Nord, 2001; Reiss, 2000).

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The ethical dimension of translation revision : an empirical study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper investigates translation revision using think-aloud protocols. Ten professional translators were asked to think aloud while revising three draft translations.

Using F-structures in machine translation evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Despite a growing interest in automatic evaluation methods for Machine Translation (MT) quality, most existing automatic metrics are still limited to surface comparison of translation and reference strings.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Towards a user-friendly webservice architecture for statistical machine translation in the PANACEA project [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents a webservice architecture for Statistical Machine Translation aimed at non-technical users. A workflow editor allows a user to combine different webservices using a graphical user interface.

Slicing Into Human Translational Cardiovascular Biology

open access: yesJACC: Basic to Translational Science, 2016
The heart failure literature is filled with a growing body of research that has identified an array of signaling pathways, transcription factors, noncoding ribonucleic acids (micro- and long noncoding ribonucleic acids), and genetic variants that are associated with either the presence and ...

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.
