Huperzine A from Huperzia species—An ethnopharmacolgical review
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2007Huperzine A (HupA), isolated originally from a traditional Chinese medicine Qiang Ceng Ta, whole plant of Huperzia serrata (Thunb. ex Murray) Trev., a member of the Huperziaceae family, has attracted intense attention since its marked anticholinesterase activity was discovered by Chinese scientists.

Anticholinesterase activity in an alkaloid extract of Huperzia saururus
Phytomedicine, 2004Huperzia saururus (Lam.) Trevis. (Lycopodiaceae) is used widely in Argentinian traditional medicine as an aphrodisiac and for memory improvement. An aqueous extract from the aerial parts was obtained by decoction, revealing the presence of alkaloids, among other constituents. By partition with organic solvent in alkaline media, alkaloids were extracted

New Epoxyserratanes from Huperzia serrata
Planta Medica, 2003Three new serratane-type epoxytriterpenoids were isolated from the whole plant of Huperzia serrata. The structures of these new compounds were characterized as 14 beta,15 beta-epoxy-3 beta-hydroxyserratan-21 beta-ol (1), 14 beta,15 beta-epoxy-3 beta-hydroxyserratan-21alpha-ol (2), and 14 beta,15 beta-epoxy-3 beta-hydroxyserratan-21alpha-ol-3 beta-O ...

Huperzia saururus, activity on synaptic transmission in the hippocampus
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2006Huperzia saururus (Lam.) Trevis. (Lycopodiaceae) known as cola de quirquincho is used in folk medicine to improve memory. The cholinergic neurons of the basal forebrain, including those in the medial septum, and in the vertical limbs of the diagonal band of Broca and the nucleus basalis of Meynert, provide a major source of cholinergic enervation of ...

Lycopodiumalkaloids fromHuperzia serrata
Journal of Asian Natural Products Research, 2010A new lycopodane-type Lycopodium alkaloid, 6α-hydroxy-5,15-oxide-lycopodane (1), and seven known alkaloids were isolated from the whole plants of Huperzia serrata. Their structures were elucidated by means of spectroscopic methods. 12-Deoxyhuperzine O (2) was reported as a naturally occurring alkaloid for the first time, and showed an antagonist effect

Selagoline, A new Alkaloid fromHuperzia Selago
Natural Product Research, 2004A new natural product, named selagoline, and two known alkaloids, huperzine A and serratidine, were isolated from Huperzia selago (Lycopodiaceae) collected in Iceland. Their structures were determined using 600 and 800MHz one- and two-dimensional NMR methods supported by Fourier-transform mass spectrometry. Possible role of selagoline as a precursor of
