Biotransformation of Huperzine A by Irpex lacteus-A fungal endophyte of Huperzia serrata

Fitoterapia, 2019
The biotransformation of huperzine A (hupA), one of the characteristic bioactive constituents of the medicinal plant Huperzia serrata, by a fungal endophyte of the host plant was studied. Two previously undescribed compounds 1-2, along with a known analog 8α,15α-epoxyhuperzine A (3), were isolated and identified. The structures of all the isolates were

Biotransformation of Huperzine B by a Fungal Endophyte of Huperzia serrata

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2019
AbstractThe biotransformation of huperzine B (hupB), one of the characteristic bioactive constituents of the medicinal plant Huperzia serrata, by a fungal endophyte of the host plant was studied. One new compound, 8α,15α‐epoxyhuperzine B (1), along with two known oxygenated hupB analogs, 16‐hydroxyhuperzine B (2) and carinatumin B (3), was isolated and

Endophytes in the plant Huperzia serrata: fungal diversity and discovery of a new pentapeptide

Archives of Microbiology, 2014
Endophytic fungi are an underexploited resource of natural products and have a capacity to produce diverse classes of plant-derived secondary metabolites. Here, we investigated the diversity of endophytic fungi from Huperzia serrata and the potential for discovering novel fungal natural products.

Determination of Huperzine A in the extract of Huperzia serrata by high performance liquid chromatography

Chinese Journal of Chromatography, 2013
A high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was established to determine the Huperzine A in the extract of Huperzia serrata. After extracted by methanol/ water/formic acid (10/90/0.2, v/v/v), the sample was filtered for HPLC analysis. The separation was performed on an XCharge C18 column (150 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microm) by gradient elution with ...

Molecular cloning and characterization of copper amine oxidase from Huperzia serrata

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2012
A cDNA encoding a novel copper amine oxidase (CAO) was cloned and sequenced from the Chinese club moss Huperzia serrata (Huperziaceae), which produces the Lycopodium alkaloid huperzine A. A 2043-bp open reading frame encoded an Mr 76,854 protein with 681 amino acids.

Two Novel Lycopodium Alkaloids from Huperzia serrata

Helvetica Chimica Acta, 2002
Huperzine Q (1) and N-oxyhuperzine Q (2), two novel irregular fawcettimine-type Lycopodium alkaloids were isolated from the CHCl3 fraction of the basic material of the whole plant of the Chinese medicinal herb Huperzia serrata. Their structures were determined as 13-epi-13β,16-epoxydihydrofawcettimine (1) and N-oxy-13-epi-13β,16 ...

Indentification of huperzine A-producing endophytic fungi isolated from Huperzia serrata

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2013
This present study was designed to investigate the production of huperzine A (HupA), an acetylcholine inhibitor, which was produced by an endophytic fungi isolated from Huperzia serrata. Screening of 94 endophytic fungal isolates obtained from plant H. serrata was carried out for the production of HupA.

Lycopodium alkaloids from Huperzia serrata and their cholinesterase inhibitory activities

Phytochemistry
Huperzia serrata, belonging to the Lycopodiaceae family, has been traditionally utilized for the management of treating rheumatic numbness, arthritic pain, dysmenorrhea, and contusions. This plant is a rich source of lycopodium alkaloids, some of which have demonstrated notable cholinesterase inhibitory activity.
