Efficacy of aqueous ozone combined with sodium metasilicate on microbial load reduction of fresh-cut cabbage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2020
The mechanism behind the sterilization effects of ozone in combination with sodium metasilicate (SM) is still unknown. Therefore, the effects of treatments of fresh-cut cabbage with aqueous ozone combined with SM on microbial growth, and produce quality ...

Stability of vitamin C in broccoli based on the chemical reaction kinetics, micro-region state diagram, and empirical correlations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2021
Vitamin C degradation of broccoli at different moisture and temperature was measured as a function of storage time and modeled by first-order reaction kinetics. The variation of rate constant was analyzed based on the activation energy, glass transition,

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Application of Active Packaging in Refrigerated Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Fillets Treated with UV-C Radiation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
This study investigated the effects of oxygen-scavenger packaging and UV-C radiation at two doses, alone or in combination, on lipid oxidation (malondialdehyde levels), protein oxidation (carbonyl content), instrumental color and texture parameters in ...

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Change in Color and Volatile Composition of Skim Milk Processed with Pulsed Electric Field and Microfiltration Treatments or Heat Pasteurization

open access: yesFoods, 2014
Non-thermal processing methods, such as pulsed electric field (PEF) and tangential-flow microfiltration (TFMF), are emerging processing technologies that can minimize the deleterious effects of high temperature short time (HTST) pasteurization on quality

Combined effect of brine salting and high-hydrostatic-pressure processing to improve the microbial quality and physicochemical properties of milkfish fillet

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2022
The effects of soaking milkfish fillet in 3% or 9% NaCl brines for 90 min at 4°C, and followed by processing with varying hydrostatic pressures (300, 400, 500, and 600 MPa) for 5 min on microbial quality and physicochemical properties were evaluated ...
