Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Local univalence versus stability and causality in hydrodynamic models

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
Our primary goal is to compare the analytic properties of hydrodynamic series with the stability and causality conditions applied to hydrodynamic modes. Analyticity, in this context, serves as a necessary condition for hydrodynamic series to behave as a ...

High-Fidelity Spectroscopy at the Highest Resolutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
High-fidelity spectroscopy presents challenges for both observations and in designing instruments. High-resolution and high-accuracy spectra are required for verifying hydrodynamic stellar atmospheres and for resolving intergalactic absorption-line ...

Generalized hydrodynamics and the classical hydrodynamic limit

open access: yes, 2018
This work is concerned with our recently developed formalism of non-equilibrium thermodynamics. This formalism extends the classical irreversible thermodynamics which leads to classical thermodynamics and can not describe physical phenomena with long relaxations. With the extended theory, we obtain a generalized hydrodynamic system which can be used to

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Hydrodynamic Lubrication Effects of Multiple Circular Bump Pattern for a Thrust Sliding Bearing of a Scroll Compressor

open access: yesTribology Online, 2012
The optimum texturing pattern for a thrust sliding bearing of a scroll compressor was investigated. As the basis of lubrication analysis for multiple circular bumps pattern, fundamental hydrodynamic lubrication effects of the axisymmetric circular ...

Application of Large Eddy Simulation to Predict Underwater Noise of Marine Propulsors. Part 2: Noise Generation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Methods to predict underwater acoustics are gaining increased significance, as the propulsion industry is required to confirm noise spectrum limits, for instance in compliance with classification society rules.

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Ideal-Gas Approach to Hydrodynamics

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
Transport is one of the most important physical processes in all energy and length scales. Ideal gases and hydrodynamics are, respectively, two opposite limits of transport. Here, we present an unexpected mathematical connection between these two limits;
