The effects of numerical resolution on hydrodynamical surface convection simulations and spectral line formation [PDF]
The computationally demanding nature of radiative-hydrodynamical simulations of stellar surface convection warrants an investigation of the sensitivity of the convective structure and spectral synthesis to the numerical resolution and dimension of the ...

Hydrodynamical simulations of viscous overstability in Saturn’s rings [PDF]
International audienceWe perform axisymmetric hydrodynamical simulations that describe the nonlinear outcome of the viscous overstability in dense planetary rings.

Recent hydrodynamical simulations have shown that circumbinary gas disks drive the orbits of massive binary black holes (BHs) to become eccentric, even when general relativistic (GR) corrections to the orbit are significant. Here, we study the GR apsidal

This article presents dielectric elastomer switch (DES) materials, based on composite thin films. Alignment of graphite flakes due to their physical confinement within the thin films lead to much stronger piezoresistive responses than bulk composites, while their durability exceeds that of conventional liquid‐based DES materials.

Soft Robotic Snake with Tunable Undulatory Gait for Efficient Underwater Locomotion
This study designs an underwater soft snake robot using 3D‐printed soft actuators, controlled by specific signals to generate sinusoidal undulation. Results show a positive correlation between speed and swing amplitude, with optimal performance at 2/3π phase offset, PLA tail, 1.2 voltage growth rate, and 6s undulation period achieving a maximum speed ...

Morphology and Mach Number Distribution of Merger Shock Surfaces in Merging Galaxy Clusters
In a binary merger of two subclusters with comparable masses, a pair of merger shocks are typically generated, often manifesting as double radio relics. Using cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, we identify major merger events with mass ratio $1\lt {{

The Three Hundred project hydrodynamical simulations: Hydrodynamical weak-lensing cluster mass biases and richnesses using different hydro models [PDF]
Context. The mass of galaxy clusters estimated from weak-lensing observations is affected by projection effects, leading to a systematic underestimation compared to the true cluster mass. This bias varies with both mass and redshift.

Hydrodynamical simulations of the jet in the symbiotic star MWC 560 [PDF]
Context.In the first paper of this series, we presented hydrodynamical simulations with radiative cooling of jet models with parameters representative of the symbiotic system MWC 560. These were jet simulations of a pulsed, initially underdense jet in

[C ii] Emission in a Self-regulated Interstellar Medium
The [C ii ] 157.74 μ m fine-structure transition is one of the brightest and most well-studied emission lines in the far-infrared, produced in the interstellar medium (ISM) of galaxies.
