Hydrodynamic instability experiments and simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Richtmyer-Meshkov experiments are conducted on the Nova laser with strong radiatively driven shocks (Mach > 20) in planar, two-fluid targets with Atwood number A < 0. Single mode interfacial perturbations are used to test linear theory and 3D random perturbations are used to study turbulent mix.

Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy clusters: X-ray scaling relations and their evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We analyse cosmological hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy clusters to study the X-ray scaling relations between total masses and observable quantities such as X-ray luminosity, gas mass, X-ray temperature, and Y-X.

Quantum‐Grade Nanodiamonds from a Single‐Step, Industrial‐Scale Pressure and Temperature Process

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Novel method for creation of nitrogen‐vacancy centers in 50‐nm nanodiamonds based on high‐temperature plastic deformation is demonstrated. Compared to the electron irradiation approach, it yields nitrogen‐vacancy centers with significantly improved charge stability, T1 relaxation time, and optical Rabi contrast.

3D Radiation-hydrodynamical Simulations of Shadows on Transition Disks

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Shadows are often observed in transition disks, which can result from obscuring by materials closer to the star, such as a misaligned inner disk. While shadows leave apparent darkened emission as observational signatures, they have significant dynamical ...

Fast, large volume, GPU enabled simulations for the Ly-alpha forest: power spectrum forecasts for baryon acoustic oscillation experiments

open access: yes, 2011
High redshift measurements of the baryonic acoustic oscillation scale (BAO) from large Ly-alpha forest surveys represent the next frontier of dark energy studies. As part of this effort, efficient simulations of the BAO signature from the Ly-alpha forest

Satellite galaxies in hydrodynamical simulations of Milky Way sized galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Collisionless simulations of the CDM cosmology predict a plethora of dark matter substructures in the halos of Milky Way sized galaxies, yet the number of known luminous satellites galaxies is very much smaller, a discrepancy that has become known as the

LONG-TERM AND LARGE-SCALE HYDRODYNAMICAL SIMULATIONS OF MIGRATING PLANETS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present a new method that allows for long-term and large-scale hydrodynamical simulations of migrating planets over a grid-based Eulerian code. This technique, which consists of a remapping of the disk by tracking the planetary migration, enables runs

Shape‐Morphing Nanoengineered Hydrogel Ribbons as Hemostats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a self‐assembling, shape‐morphing nanoengineered hydrogel ribbon system that rapidly forms porous aggregates in situ for efficient hemostasis in trauma and surgical applications. Abstract Rapid and effective hemorrhage control remains a major challenge in trauma and surgical care, particularly for complex or noncompressible wounds.

The effect of neutrinos on the matter distribution as probed by the Intergalactic Medium

open access: yes, 2010
We present a suite of full hydrodynamical cosmological simulations that quantitatively address the impact of neutrinos on the (mildly non-linear) spatial distribution of matter and in particular on the neutral hydrogen distribution in the Intergalactic ...
