Monte Carlo modeling of radiation dose from radiation therapy with superficial x‐rays
Abstract Introduction Superficial x‐rays (50–100 kVp) are used for treating non‐melanoma skin cancer and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). At these energies, the photoelectric effect significantly increases absorbed dose to bone compared to soft tissue.

Abstract Introduction The use of radioactive materials in the United States has been tightly regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other entities for many decades. In 2015, however, the Joint Commission began to require hospital‐based nuclear medicine departments to conduct shielding designs and evaluations for radioactive material areas ...

Thermal therapeutic pools in most countries are operated in a manner similar to swimming pools: with water circulation, filtration and disinfection. However, in some countries, including Hungary, therapeutic pools are traditionally not treated this way ...

Stomatal Movement and Hydrogen Ion Concentration [PDF]
IN order to test the effect of the hydrogen ion concentration of the cell-sap on stomatal movement, experiments were made with the stomata of Tulipa, Scilla, Iris, and Tradescantia. It was found that the hydrogen ion concentration of the cell-sap of the guard-cells was approximately 4.5, while the epidermal cells were slightly less acid.

Coacervation driven by liquid‐liquid phase separation (LLPS) of biopolymers has garnered increasing attention in biology since this leads to the formation of membraneless organelles capable of performing essential yet largely unknown functions. This review highlights recent advances in coacervates (artificial condensates) composed of low‐molecular ...

Concentration bounds for sampling without replacement and Hoeffding statistics [PDF]
We prove a Bennett-type concentration bound for suprema of empirical processes based on sampling without replacement and a corresponding bound in the case of an arbitrary Hoeffding statistics. We improve on the previous results of such type, providing a sharper concentration profile.

The pH of the main Brazilian commercial moisturizers and liquid soaps: considerations on the repair of the skin barrier [PDF]
: The pH of the skin is slightly acidic (4.6 to 5.8) which is important for appropriate antibacterial, antifungal, constitution of barrier function, as well as structuring and maturation of the stratum corneum.

Concentration Inequalities in Locally Dependent Spaces [PDF]
This paper studies concentration inequalities for functions of locally dependent random variables. We show that the usual definition of local dependence does not imply concentration for general Hamming Lipschitz functions. We define hypergraph dependence, which is a special case of local dependence, and show that it implies concentration if the maximal

Energetics of point defects in yttrium aluminum garnet doped with Mg and Si [PDF]
An influence of Mg and Si dopants on the formation energies and the concentration of point defects in yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) is studied using the density functional approach. The formation energies of Mg and Si substitutional and interstitial defects, native point defects and defect complexes versus the oxygen chemical potential are obtained. It
