Antimicrobial and Antiviral Activity of Hydrolysable Tannins

Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
Hydrolysable tannins (HTs), secondary metabolites widely distributed in the plant kingdom, are generally multiple esters of gallic acid with glucose. HTs have been shown to be effective antagonists against viruses, bacteria and eukaryotic microorganisms.

Oligomeric hydrolysable tannins from Tibouchina multiflora

Phytochemistry, 1999
Two hydrolysable tannins, nobotanin O and nobotanin P, were isolated from the leaf extract of Tibouchina multiflora (Melastomataceae) and their dimeric and tetrameric structures elucidated on the basis of spectral data and chemical correlations with nobotanin B and K, respectively. Thirteen known hydrolysable tannins including nobotanins A, B, C and J,

New hydrolysable tannin from Cibotium barometz.

Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2013
To study the chemical constituents from Cibotium batometz.Column chromatograph and HPLC were used to isolate and purify the compound, and the structure was elucidated on the basis of MS and NMR spectroscopic methods.A new phenolic compound, 4-O-caffeoyl-D-glucopyranose, has been isolated from the rhizome of C. barometz.

Hydrolysable tannins from Loropetalum chinense

Phytochemistry, 1993
Abstract Three new oligomeric hydrolysable tannins, loropetalins A-C, were isolated from Loropetalum chinense and their structures elucidated by spectral and chemical methods. Eighteen known tannins and related polyphenols, including oligomeric hydrolysable tannins (camelliin B and rugosins D, E and G), were also isolated.

A dimeric hydrolysable tannin from Camellia oleifera

Phytochemistry, 1994
Camellioferin A, a new dimeric ellagitannin, was isolated, together with 13 known tannins, including camellins A and B, from Camellia oleifera. The structure of the new tannin elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Dimeric hydrolysable tannins from Tamarix pakistanica

Phytochemistry, 1993
Abstract Tamarixinins B and C, two new dimeric hydrolysable tannins, have been isolated from the flower extract of Tamarix pakistanica. Spectral data and chemical correlation with the known tannins by Smiles rearrangement established their structures, in which the monomeric units are linked to each other by isodehydrodigalloyl group(s).

Hydrolysable tannins of Eucalyptus delegatensis wood

Phytochemistry, 1970
Abstract Five ellagitannins have been isolated from the wood of Eucalyptus delegatensis by fractionation with Sephadex and characterized by hydrolysis reactions and NMR spectra. They include 2,3- and 4,6-(hexahydroxydiphenoyl)-glucose, a di-(hexahydroxydiphenoyl)-glucose known as pedunculagin, and two more complex tannins of incompletely determined ...

Analysis of hydrolysable tannins

Animal Feed Science and Technology, 2001
This review deals with the main issues relating to the analysis of hydrolysable tannins (HTs). It covers briefly their distribution in the plant kingdom and describes their main structural features. HTs have often been ignored because they are apparently more difficult to analyse than condensed tannins.

Hydrolysable tannin oligomers from Rosa davurica

Phytochemistry, 1991
Abstract Three new hydrolysable tannin oligomers, davuriciins D 1 , D 2 and T 1 , along with a main tannin, agrimoniin, have been isolated from the root extract of Rosa davurica . Their structures in which monomeric constituents are linked through a valoneoyl group and/or dehydrodigalloyl group, have been elucidated based on spectral and chemical ...
