Cryptococcal 3-hydroxy fatty acids protect cells against amoebal phagocytosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
We previously reported on a 3-hydroxy fatty acid that is secreted via cryptococcal capsular protuberances - possibly to promote pathogenesis and survival.

The lipid composition of the electric organ of the ray, Torpedo marmorata, with specific reference to sulfatides and Na+-K+-ATPase.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1979
The lipids from the electric organ of the ray, Torpedo marmorata, have been isolated and characterized. The major lipids were cholesterol, choline phospholipids, ethanolamine phospholipids, and sphingomyelins.

The confusion about dietary fatty acids recommendations for CHD prevention [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A recent meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies has not found an association between dietary saturated fat intake and CHD incidence. This funnelled the discussion about the importance of the recommendation to lower the intake of saturated fat for ...

Acetoacetates Derived From Vegetable Oils: A Platform for Tailor‐Made Vinylogous Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A renewable vegetable oil is converted into acetoacetate‐functionalized precursors for the preparation of catalyst‐free vinylogous urethane foams. Room‐temperature foaming with n‐pentane generates lightweight cellular materials, while the choice of amine enables control over foam structure and mechanical properties.

Novel liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry method shows that vitamin E deficiency depletes arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acids in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2014
To test the hypothesis that embryogenesis depends upon α-tocopherol (E) to protect embryo polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) from lipid peroxidation, new methodologies were applied to measure α-tocopherol and fatty acids in extracts from saponified ...

Fatty acids of glycosphingolipids from pig blood fractions

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1970
Four glycolipids have been isolated from three fractions of pig blood. The glycolipids were presumably cerebroside, diglycosyl ceramide, triglycosyl ceramide, and globoside.

Esterification of hydroxy compounds by fatty acid anhydrides

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1964
Partial glycerides are rapidly and completely esterified at room temperature to triglycerides by fatty acid anhydrides in the presence of perchloric acid. This esterification occurs without isomerization of the partial glyceride. As a consequence, by the use of partial glycerides of the appropriate structure, triglycerides having a specific structure ...

Bioengineered Exosome‐Loaded Immunomodulatory Bioadhesive Spray Reverses Liver Fibrosis and Metabolic Dysfunction That Triggers Beneficial Gut‐Liver Crosstalk in Chronic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Umbilical cord stem cell‐derived exosomes encapsulated in an immunomodulatory bioadhesive hydrogel spray enable localized therapy, sustained vesicle delivery, macrophage polarization, suppress systemic inflammation, and mitigate glucose and insulin homeostasis impairments in MAFLD.

The Staphylococcus aureus Response to Unsaturated Long Chain Free Fatty Acids: Survival Mechanisms and Virulence Implications. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Staphylococcus aureus is an important human commensal and opportunistic pathogen responsible for a wide range of infections. Long chain unsaturated free fatty acids represent a barrier to colonisation and infection by S.
