Metabolism of 1-hydroxybenzo[a]pyrene
Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1981Abstract A metabolite of the known carcinogen benzo[ a ]pyrene (BP), 1-hydroxybenzo[ a ]pyrene 1-BPOH, is further metabolized by rat liver homogenate and microsomes. This oxidation is shown to be enzyme-catalyzed and dependent upon the presence of NADH and NADPH. Isolation of the final product yielded the BP-1,6-dione.

Polyesters of hydroxybenzoic acids
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1959Polymers and copolymers were prepared from the acetoxy derivatives of m- and p-hydroxybenzoic acids. Molecular weights of over 20,000 were obtained for poly(m-hydroxybenzoic acid) and copolymers containing up to 60% para isomer. These polyesters were crystalline, and the degree of crystallinity increased as the para isomer content was increased. Blocks

Action of Methyl Hydroxybenzoate on Nervous Conduction
Nature, 1961METHYL hydroxybenzoate and its sodium derivative are recommended by the B.P.C. and by Martin-dale1 as preservatives for creams, emulsions, lotions and ophthalmic solutions, and they are used to preserve local anaesthetics. During an investigation of the action of phenol on nerve fibres2,3, we examined the action of methyl hydroxybenzoate and its sodium

Dimethacrylates Derived from Hydroxybenzoic Acids
Journal of Dental Research, 1976Aromatic ether-ester dimethacrylates were synthesized directly from the three isomeric hydroxybenzoic acids and 2-bromoethyl methacrylate by facale condensation reactions. The three crystalline monomers, on proper admixture, form a liquid ternary eutectic.

Structure and mechanism of para‐hydroxybenzoate hydroxylase
The FASEB Journal, 1995Para‐hydroxybenzoate hydroxylase (EC 1.14.13.2) is a flavoprotein involved in degradation of aromatic compounds, and it has become a model for enzymes involved in the oxygenation of a substrate. The chemical and kinetic mechanisms of this enzyme are described and integrated with an outline of the structure of the protein from ...

Abstract The radiolytic degradation of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid ethyl ester (4-HBAEE) and 4-hydroxybenzoate (4-HBA) and the subsequent product formation in N2O-saturated and aerated solutions has been studied as a function of dose. The rate constants of OH• radicals with the substrates are k(OH•+4-HBAEE)=7.5×109 dm3 mol−1 s−1 and k(OH• +4-HBA)=6.7×109 ...

Hydroxybenzoic acids and their derivatives as peroxynitrite scavengers
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2014A social challenge of the 21(st) century is to reduce the incidence of chronic diseases. A balanced diet rich in polyphenols could contribute to reduce the risk and to the prevention of diabetes, coronary heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's diseases and cataract(1).

Enhanced Chartreusin Solubility by Hydroxybenzoate Hydrotropy
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1979The apparent aqueous solubility of the water-insoluble cytotoxic agent, chartreusin, was increased at neutral pH in the presence of hydroxybenzoates. Water molecules play an important role in the chartreusin conformation. Studies included solubility and spectral examinations.

The solubility data for well-defined binary, ternary, and multicomponent systems of solid-liquid type are reviewed. One component, which is 2-, 3-, and 4-hydroxybenzoic acids, 4-hydroxybenzoate alkyl esters (parabens), or hydroxybenzoic acid salts, is in the solid state at room temperature and another component is liquid water, meaning that all of the ...
