Maternal Vitamin D Deficiency and Its Effects on Pregnancy Outcomes

Vitamin D deficiency was highly prevalent among Malaysian pregnant women, with intake below recommended levels. Deficient vitamin D status was significantly associated with gestational hypertensive disorder, preterm birth, Group B Streptococcus carriage, and cesarean section.

The Protective Effect of Vitamin D Against Necroptosis in Preeclampsia

Objective Preeclampsia is correlated with an inflammatory condition. Necroptosis is a programmed cell death with an inflammatory state. Vitamin D has anti‐inflammatory properties; however, there has been no study linking vitamin D and necroptosis in preeclampsia.

This hospital‐based cross‐sectional study assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP), and serum vitamin D concentration among pregnant women in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The majority of the participants demonstrated good knowledge, negative attitudes, inconsistent practices, and a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency.
