Physiological role of compatible solute hydroxyectoine, synthesized in the halophilic Halomonas ventosae DL7

OCEANS 2008 - MTS/IEEE Kobe Techno-Ocean, 2008
Halomonas ventosae DL7 is a moderately halophilic bacterium that can grow over a wide range of salinity, 1-23 % NaCl. In response to the external osmotic stress (1-3 M NaCl), strain DL7 can accumulate ectoine and hydroxyectoine as compatible solutes, both of which were identified by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Production of hydroxyectoine: high cell-density cultivation and osmotic downshock of Marinococcus strain M52

Journal of Biotechnology, 1995
This study reports the mass-cultivation of a Gram-positive halophilic microorganism for the biotechnological production of the compatible solute and enzyme protectant hydroxyectoine. A high cell-density cultivation of the hydroxyectoine producer strain M52 (Marinococcus sp.) was performed using an exponential fed-batch strategy with medium exchange ...

To obtain hydroxyectoine-producing strain with tolerance to osmotic shock and improve hydroxyectoine productivity by adopting "bacteria milking" process. We isolated a strain from salt lake, and then carried out the identifications of morphology, physiological and biochemical characteristics of the strain.

Synthesis and physiological function of the chemical chaperones ectoine and hydroxyectoine

2012
A common strategy of bacteria to adapt to hypo osmotic environmental conditions is the uptake or synthesis of osmotic active substances, referred to as compatible solutes. This thesis deals mainly with aspects based on the synthesis of those compatible solutes.
