Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Universality of hydroxyl radical generation in irradiated nanoenhancer suspensions: Vital role of concentration

open access: yesAIP Advances
Concentration plays an essential role in generating hydroxyl radicals in irradiated nanoenhancer suspensions. In this paper, we used coumarin-3-carboxylic acid as a hydroxyl radical-specific probe to investigate the hydroxyl radical production of ...

BALANOKARPOL AND AMPELOPSIN H, TWO OLIGORESVERATROLS FROM STEM BARK OF Hopea odorata (DIPTEROCARPACEAE) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Two oligoresveratrol, namely balanokarpol (1) and ampelopsin H (2) had been isolated from the steam bark of Hopea odorata (Dipterocarpaceae). The structure of this compound were elucidated based on physical and spectroscopic data (MS, 1H and 13C NMR 1D ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Impact of Reaction Parameters and Water Matrices on the Removal of Organic Pollutants by TiO2/LED and ZnO/LED Heterogeneous Photocatalysis Using 365 and 398 nm Radiation

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
In this work, the application of high-power LED365nm and commercial, low-price LED398nm for heterogeneous photocatalysis with TiO2 and ZnO photocatalysts are studied and compared, focusing on the effect of light intensity, photon energy, quantum yield ...

Estimate of global atmospheric organic aerosol from oxidation of biogenic hydrocarbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The results from a series of outdoor chamber experiments establishing the atmospheric aerosol-forming potential of fourteen terpenoid hydrocarbons have been used to estimate the annual amount of secondary organic aerosol formed globally from compounds ...

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Correlations between experimental and theoretical adiabatic ionization energies for organic compounds and rate constants for atmospheric reactions with hydroxyl radicals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Adiabatic ionization energy (AIE) calculations were performed at the AM1, PM3, PM6, PDDG, HF/QZVP, and B3LYP/QZVP levels of theory on 722 atmospherically relevant organic compounds with available experimental rate constants for atmospheric reactions with

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
