The Iron‐Sulfur Cluster of Bacterioferritin‐Associated Ferredoxin (Bfd): A ‘Biological Fuse’ that Prevents Oxidative Damage to Cells?

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Iron is in an essential micronutrient in living systems. However, it is also potentially toxic and so the concentration of chelatable iron within cells is tightly regulated to prevent catalytic formation of harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS). Ferritins play a key role in iron homeostasis by storing excess iron as an insoluble ferric mineral within ...

Metabolomic analysis reveals the molecular mechanism related to leg abnormality in broilers

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract shows the principal results of this study. Compared to the leg normal broilers, the serum calcium to phosphorus ratio was extremely decreased in the group with deformed leg bones. Additionally, a total of nine differential metabolites significantly associated with leg abnormalities and serum calcium and phosphorus levels were ...

Determination of selenium speciation in the muscle, kidney, and liver from different animals treated with different selenium supplements by HPLC‐ICP‐MS

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary selenium (Se) deficiency is recognized as a global problem, and exogenous Se supplementation can effectively enrich its levels in animal bodies. Offal tissues are equally important as meat in Se enrichment. Varying properties among Se species require information beyond total Se concentration to fully evaluate health risk/benefits.

Fractionation of human immune γ-globulin [PDF]

open access: yes, 1950
Equine and bovine serum proteins have recently been fractionated by means of a physical method utilizing an electrophoretic adaptation of the principles of the Clusius column (l-4), first described and tested by Kirkwood (5) and Nielsen (6).

The Hydroxymethylation of Acetoguanamine with Formaldehyde

open access: yesNippon kagaku zassi, 1966

Additively Manufactured Binder‐Free Electrodes for Supercapacitors

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, EarlyView.
The study presents an innovative manufacturing process for electrodes in supercapacitors. The masked stereolithography method is used to produce electrodes that do not require a binder or metal foil. The printed electrodes have a microporous charter. Electrochemical measurements show that the additively manufactured electrodes behave in the same way as

Optimization of second‐generation lactic acid from corn stover by alkaline catalysis in subcritical water reaction medium

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The optimization of hydrothermal lactic acid (LA) production from corn stover using Ca(OH)2 as catalyst was investigated. Initial studies with a 9 g L−1 glucose solution, and different Ca(OH)2 concentrations, in the range of 0.025–0.1 M, identified 0.075 M as the optimal concentration.
