Hydroxymethylation and tumors: can 5-hydroxymethylation be used as a marker for tumor diagnosis and treatment? [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Genomics, 2020
Abstract5-Methylcytosine (5mC) is considered as a common epigenetic modification that plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression. At the same time, 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) has been found as an emerging modification of cytosine bases of recent years.

Achieving Stable Paired Electrolysis of Captured CO2 and 5‐Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) via Tuning Anolyte Composition and Anode Surface

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly stable paired electrolysis of CO2 and biomass‐derived alcohol (HMF) is achieved by replacing conventional alkaline electrolytes with a tailored triethylamine‐carbonate buffer and anion‐conducting ionomer coatings. This configuration effectively mitigates electrolyte degradation and pH instability typically encountered in alkaline CO2 ...

Enzymatic separation of epimeric 4-C-hydroxymethylated furanosugars: Synthesis of bicyclic nucleosides

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2017
Conversion of D-glucose to 4-C-hydroxymethyl-1,2-O-isopropylidene-α-D-ribofuranose, which is a key precursor for the synthesis of different types of bicyclic/spiro nucleosides, led to the formation of an inseparable 1:1 mixture of the desired product and

Tissue-Specific Differences in DNA Modifications (5-Hydroxymethylcytosine, 5-Formylcytosine, 5-Carboxylcytosine and 5-Hydroxymethyluracil) and Their Interrelationships.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
BackgroundReplication-independent active/enzymatic demethylation may be an important process in the functioning of somatic cells. The most plausible mechanisms of active 5-methylcytosine demethylation, leading to activation of previously silenced genes ...

DNA methylation/hydroxymethylation in melanoma

open access: yesOncotarget, 2017
Melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes and is considered to be the most aggressive cancer among all skin diseases. The pathogenesis of melanoma has not been well documented, which may restrict the research and development of biomarkers and therapies.

Glepaglutide‐Loaded Foam for the Induction of Mucosal Healing in the Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
Glepaglutide (GL), a GLP‐2 analog with an extended half‐life (50 h), is currently undergoing clinical trials for patients with short bowel syndrome. GL requires subcutaneous injection, which poses challenges for potential patient compliance. To address this challenge, we loaded GL into a rectal foam formulation using CO2 as a permeation enhancer to ...

Inhibition of sterol biosynthesis in animal cells by 14 alpha-hydroxymethyl sterols.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1980
The chemical syntheses of a number of 14 alpha-hydroxymethyl sterols and 14 alpha -hydroxymethyl-15 alpha-hydroxysterols and their derivatives have been pursued to permit evaluation of their activity in the inhibition of sterol biosynthesis in animal ...

Covalent Binding of Dexamethasone to Polyimide Improves Biocompatibility of Neural Implantable Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The covalent binding of dexamethasone to the surface of polyimide represents the electrically inert part of implantable intraneural devices. This ensures a sustained release of the drug for 9 weeks. In vitro and in vivo tests confirm the reduction of the foreign body reactions and the improved biocompatibility of dexamethasone functionalized polyimide.

The oxidative damage to the human telomere: effects of 5-hydroxymethyl-2'-deoxyuridine on telomeric G-quadruplex structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
As part of the genome, human telomeric regions can be damaged by the chemically reactive molecules responsible for oxidative DNA damage. Considering that G-quadruplex structures have been proven to occur in human telomere regions, several studies have ...
