Autophagy and rheumatoid arthritis: Current knowledges and future perspectives [PDF]
Autophagy is a degradation mechanism by which cells recycle cytoplasmic components to generate energy. By influencing lymphocyte development, survival, and proliferation, autophagy regulates the immune responses against self and non-self antigens ...

Mathematical modeling of calcium signaling during sperm hyperactivation [PDF]
Mammalian sperm must hyperactivate in order to fertilize oocytes. Hyperactivation is characterized by highly asymmetrical flagellar bending. It serves to move sperm out of the oviductal reservoir and to penetrate viscoelastic fluids, such as the cumulus matrix. It is absolutely required for sperm penetration of the oocyte zona pellucida.

ERK‐Mediated Phosphorylation of YAP Defines a Noncanonical FGF Signaling Mechanism in Stem Cells
With a powerful combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models, the authors highlight a novel FGF‐ERK signaling regulation of YAP at the S128 site in neural crest‐derived stem cells. This study opens exciting new directions in stem cell biology and craniofacial biology, paving the way for potential innovations in the treatment of craniofacial ...

Fertilizing ability of spermatozoa: its conditioning factors and methods of determination (review)
Fertilization is a complex process that results in the fusion of gametes. In order to obtain fertilizing ability, spermatozoa need to undergo post-ejaculation processes in the female reproductive tract.

PKR deficiency delays vascular aging via inhibiting GSDMD-mediated endothelial cell hyperactivation
Summary: Vascular aging is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, but the regulatory mechanism is not clearly understood. In this study, we found that endothelial PKR activity is elevated in aging aorta tissues, which is accompanied with

Regulation of hamster sperm hyperactivation by extracellular Na+ [PDF]
AbstractMammalian sperm motility has to be hyperactivated to be fertilization-competent. Hyperactivation is regulated by extracellular environment. Osmolality of mammalian semen is higher than that in female reproductive tract; however, the effect of them on hyperactivation has not been investigated. So we investigated the effect of osmotic environment

Lipid overload suppresses SREBF2‐mediated FNTB expression, leading to defective Lamin A maturation and nuclear envelope instability. This nuclear catastrophe triggers a pro‐fibrotic senescence program in cardiomyocytes. Notably, restoring nuclear integrity via AAV9‐based gene therapy effectively attenuates cardiac remodeling, identifying the ...

Hyperactivation is one of the most critical parts for fertilization. cAMP generated by soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC) is necessary to activate sperm and is a prerequisite for sperm hyperactivation.
