What does the intention to be a volunteer for a student with autism predict? the role of cognitive brain types and emotion and behavior characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The study was designed to verify which cognitive brain types and behaviors in classroom predicted the intention to volunteer to become a peer buddy for a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Pathogenic Role of FGFR3 Autoantibodies in Small Fiber Neuropathy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Autoantibodies against fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) are identified as pathogenic drivers of pain in small fiber neuropathy. By binding to sensory neurons in dorsal root ganglia, FGFR3 autoantibodies activate MAPK signaling and induce hyperexcitability and mechanical hypersensitivity, establishing FGFR3 autoantibodies as a therapeutic ...

IRSp53 Deletion in Glutamatergic and GABAergic Neurons and in Male and Female Mice Leads to Distinct Electrophysiological and Behavioral Phenotypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2020
IRSp53 (also known as BAIAP2) is an abundant excitatory postsynaptic scaffolding protein implicated in autism spectrum disorders (ASD), schizophrenia, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). IRSp53 is expressed in different cell types across

Childhood predictors of criminal offending: results from a 19-year longitudinal epidemiological study of boys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objective: To examine the relative contribution of hyperactivity, conduct, and emotional problems in predicting criminal offending. Method: In all, 173 boys aged 6 to 8 years (assessed for hyperactivity, conduct, and emotional problems) were followed ...

A Wearable Brain–Computer Interface for Mitigating Car Sickness via Attention Shifting

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Car sickness poses a major challenge in vehicular travel, yet effective nonpharmacological solutions are scarce. We developed a wearable, closed‐loop mindfulness BCI that uses real‐time EEG‐based neurofeedback to shift attention away from motion‐induced discomfort. Validated in real‐car experiments involving >100$>100$ susceptible individuals, over 83%

Short-Term Orchestral Music Training Modulates Hyperactivity and Inhibitory Control in School-Age Children: A Longitudinal Behavioural Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Survey studies have shown that participating in music groups produces several benefits, such as discipline, cooperation and responsibility. Accordingly, recent longitudinal studies showed that orchestral music training has a positive impact on inhibitory

The Influence of Hyperactivity of the Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal Axis and Hyperglycemia on the 5-HT2A Receptor-mediated Wet-dog Shake Responses in Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Hyperactivity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis induces hyperglycemia and serotonin (5-HT)2A receptor supersensitivity. In the present study, to investigate the effect of hyperglycemia on the function of 5-HT2A receptors, we compared the 5-

Atrophic Skeletal Muscle‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Transfer miR‐125a‐5p to Inhibit Bone Formation in Osteoporosis during Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A muscle‐bone endocrine pathway in aging is revealed in which extracellular vesicles released from atrophic skeletal muscle (Aged‐SKM‐EVs) inhibit bone formation. These EVs deliver miR‐125a‐5p to osteoblasts, thereby suppressing the SIRT7‐Sp7 signaling axis and osteogenic differentiation.

An Open‐Source Pipeline for Calcium Imaging and All‐Optical Physiology in Human Stem Cell‐Derived Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces an open‐source all‐optical platform for functional phenotyping of human stem cell‐derived neurons. The system integrates optogenetics, calcium imaging, automated acquisition, and analysis to resolve single‐cell and network activity, enabling longitudinal measurements, disease modeling, and pharmacological screening in preclinical ...
