Suspected primary hyperreninism in a cat with malignant renal sarcoma and global renin‐angiotensin‐aldosterone system upregulation

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 2022
A 14‐year‐old male castrated domestic medium‐hair cat with diabetes mellitus was evaluated for vomiting, diarrhea, and anorexia. Two weeks before presentation, the cat had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and started on furosemide.

Coexistence of Primary Hyperaldosteronism and Graves’ Disease, a Rare Combination of Endocrine Disorders: Is It beyond a Coincidence—A Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, 2017
Background. Primary hyperaldosteronism is a known cause for secondary hypertension. In addition to its effect on blood pressure, aldosterone exhibits proinflammatory actions and plays a role in immunomodulation/development of autoimmunity.

[Hyperaldosteronism].

open access: yesDer Internist, 2021
Aldosterone is produced in the adrenal cortex and governs volume and electrolyte homeostasis. Hyperaldosteronism can occur either as primary aldosteronism (renin-independent) or secondary aldosteronism (renin-dependent). As the commonest cause of secondary hypertension, primary aldosteronism is associated with increased cardiovascular risk.

Vascular dysfunction and fibrosis in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats: the aldosterone-mineralocorticoid receptor-Nox1 Axis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aims: We questioned whether aldosterone and oxidative stress play a role in vascular damage in severe hypertension and investigated the role of Nox1 in this process.

Unilateral nodular adrenal hyperplasia: Case series

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Urology, 2016
Introduction: Nodular adrenal hyperplasia is one of rare causes of adrenocortical hyperplasia. The disease usually presents bilaterally. Few publications discussed the possibility of unilateral disease, in association with hyperaldosteronism or Cushing ...

Alterations in vascular function in primary aldosteronism - a cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Introduction: Excess aldosterone is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Aldosterone has a permissive effect on vascular fibrosis. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) allows study of vascular function by measuring aortic ...

Primary aldosteronism and coronary-pulmonary artery fistula: coincidence or causal link? A case report and literature review

open access: yesArterial Hypertension, 2021
BACKGROUND: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most frequent form of potentially reversible hypertension and coronary-pulmonary fistulas are increasingly recognized during routine coronary angiography or multidetector computed tomography for analysis of ...
