Analysis of the nursing diagnosis of [ineffective breathing pattern (00032)] in patients hospitalized with COVID‐19: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nursing Knowledge, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To analyze the prevalence, accuracy of clinical indicators and related factors of the nursing diagnosis of ineffective breathing pattern (00032) in patients hospitalized due to COVID‐19. Methods This is a cross‐sectional study conducted in a public hospital, involving 250 adult hospitalizations between 2020 and 2021.

Glutamate receptor plasticity in brainstem respiratory nuclei following chronic hypercapnia in goats

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2019
Patients that retain CO2 in respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have worse prognoses and higher mortality rates than those with equal impairment of lung function without hypercapnia.

Renal Response to Hypercapnia.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1953
SummaryAn average increase of 17.9 volume % in arterial blood CO2 concentration was produced in dogs by rebreathing from a spirometer. No evidence of significant renal vasomotor alteration was noted. However, urinary pH decreased, and sodium excretion progressively decreased to an average of 35% of control.

Physiopathological rationale of using high-flow nasal therapy in the acute and chronic setting: A narrative review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Chronic lung disease and admissions due to acute respiratory failure (ARF) are becoming increasingly common. Consequently, there is a growing focus on optimizing respiratory support, particularly non-invasive respiratory support, to manage these ...

Safer prehospital anaesthesia: updated guidelines from the Association of Anaesthetists

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Prehospital emergency anaesthesia is recognised as a high‐risk clinical intervention. These updated guidelines consider changes in prehospital practice and parallel changes in the practice of in‐hospital emergency anaesthesia, with the aim of encouraging standardised safe anaesthetic practice in a challenging clinical area.

Effect of hypercapnia on pleth variability index during stable propofol: Remifentanil anesthesia

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia, 2013
Background: The pleth variability index (PVI), which is calculated from respiratory variations in the perfusion index (PI), has been shown to predict fluid responsiveness in mechanically ventilated patients; however, vasomotor tone changes induced by ...

Regulation of PHOX2B gene expression by the long non‐coding natural antisense RNA PHOX2B‐AS1

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
PHOX2B is a transcription factor essential for autonomic nervous system development. We identify and characterize PHOX2B‐AS1, a human long non‐coding antisense transcript at the PHOX2B locus, along with its murine counterpart. Our findings reveal bidirectional transcription and reciprocal regulation: PHOX2B activates PHOX2B‐AS1, whereas PHOX2B‐AS1 ...

Investigation of the Influence of Hypercapnia on the Physiology of Ovigerous West Coast Rock Lobsters, Jasus lalandii, and Their Embryonic Development

open access: yesBiology
The West Coast rock lobster, Jasus lalandii, is a key ecological species and provides an important fishery resource in South Africa and Namibia. It is found along the west coast of southern Africa in the dynamic Benguela Current upwelling system. The low

Modulation of Neurally Mediated Vasodepression and Bradycardia by Electroacupuncture through Opioids in Nucleus Tractus Solitarius. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Stimulation of vagal afferent endings with intravenous phenylbiguanide (PBG) causes both bradycardia and vasodepression, simulating neurally mediated syncope.
