Association of hyperinsulinemia with chlorpropamide toxicity
The American Journal of Medicine, 1988Clinical and metabolic features of chlorpropamide toxicity are described in two patients with diabetes mellitus and accidental chlorpropamide overdosage. Elevated serum insulin levels were found during hypoglycemia in both patients. The world's literature was reviewed for other cases of chlorpropamide toxicity in which insulin levels have been measured

Atherosclerosis in diabetes: The role of hyperinsulinemia
Metabolism, 1988Non-insulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM) is a major cause of premature morbidity and mortality among adults. Macrovascular disease of coronary and peripheral vessels is the primary cause of death in these patients. Numerous experimental and epidemiologic studies have suggested that hyperinsulinemia accelerates the development of atherosclerosis.

Hyperinsulinemia—How Innocent a Bystander?
Diabetes Care, 1993Hyperinsulinemia is very much in the spotlight. Debate rages as to its significance and role in the etiology not only of NIDDM, but also other morphological and metabolic risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, including upper-body obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and hyperuricemia.

Hyperinsulinemia and Uric Acid Clearance
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1992To the Editor. —I read with great interest the article by Facchini et al, 1 which correlated uric acid clearance with insulin resistance. Such an explanation fits with earlier studies in which the administration of antilipemic doses of nicotinic acid induced hyperglycemia, abnormal glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hyperuricemia, and apparent ...
