Drug-induced hyperlactatemia

open access: yesClinical Toxicology, 2017
Hyperlactatemia is common in critically ill patients and has a variety of etiologies. Medication toxicity remains an uncommon cause that providers often fail to recognize. In this article, we review several medications that cause hyperlactatemia in either therapeutic or supratherapeutic dosing. When known, the incidence, mortality, pathophysiology, and

Hyperlactatemia: An Update on Postoperative Lactate

World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, 2020
While hyperlactatemia in postoperative cardiac surgery patients was once believed to solely reflect hypoperfusion, either from the accumulated “oxygen debt” during bypass or ongoing inadequate perfusion, our understanding of lactate generation, clearance, and management has evolved.

A Newborn With Hyperlactatemia and Epileptic Encephalopathy

Seminars in Pediatric Neurology, 2018
The etiology of hyperlactatemia in newborns could be a challenging diagnosis. In this article we are discussing a diagnostic paradigm using the clinical history, laboratory results, and brain imaging that could be helpful in directing the work up.

Reversal of hyperventilation induced hyperlactatemia by acetazolamide

Respiration Physiology, 1970
Abstract Acetazolamide administration to hyperventilating dogs was found to both reverse and to prevent the associated hyperlactatemia. This inhibition of glycolysis was associated with a reversal of the hyperventilation induced alkalosis, an increase in PCO2, and an increase in blood CO2 content.

Predicting hyperlactatemia in the MIMIC II database

2015 37th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2015
Sepsis, which occurs when an infection leads to a systemic inflammatory response, is believed to contribute to one in two to three hospital deaths in the United States. Using the Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care (MIMIC II) database of electronic medical records from Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), we worked

Dopexamine Test in septic shock with hyperlactatemia

Annales Françaises d'Anesthésie et de Réanimation, 2010
To evaluate the 6 hours haemodynamic effects of dopexamine (DPX) infusion in septic shock patients with persistent hyperlactatemia treated with high dose of norepinephrine (NE).Preliminary, prospective, uncontrolled study.Twenty-one septic shock with NE>0.5 μg/kg/min, venous mixed oxygen saturation (ScvO(2)/SvO(2))>70%, cardiac index (CI)>3.5 l/min/m(2)
