A practical guide to over‐the‐counter treatments for hyperpigmentation

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice
Hyperpigmentation of the skin, defined as increased melanin in the epidermis, is a common condition associated with psychosocial impairment and decreased quality of life. Prescription options are often not covered by insurance and can be cost prohibitive.

CUTANEOUS HYPERPIGMENTATION IN MEGALOBLASTIC ANEMIA: A FIVE YEAR RETROSPECTIVE REVIEW. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Cutaneous hyperpigmentation is an often overlooked clinical sign in megaloblastic anemia (MA) which has been sporadically reported in the literature. Methods: We describe the bone marrow (BM) changes and clinicolaboaratory characteristics of

Itching for a diagnosis: Dysesthesias as an atypical presentation of Wilson disease in an adolescent—Case report

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Wilson disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive disorder of hepatic copper metabolism with varied clinical presentations. We describe a 15‐year‐old male referred for elevated aminotransferases, burning facial pruritis, scalp dysesthesias, and chronic bilateral lower extremity edema.

A case report of Peutz–Jeghers syndrome in a child with Crohn's disease

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Peutz–Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by hamartomatous polyps and mucocutaneous hyperpigmented freckles, whereas Crohn's disease (CD) is a condition characterized by chronic intestinal inflammation. Here, we present a rare case report of an 11‐year‐old male who presented with both CD and PJS.

Natural and Bioinspired Phenolic Compounds as Tyrosinase Inhibitors for the Treatment of Skin Hyperpigmentation: Recent Advances

open access: yesCosmetics, 2019
One of the most common approaches for control of skin pigmentation involves the inhibition of tyrosinase, a copper-containing enzyme which catalyzes the key steps of melanogenesis.

JAK Inhibitors in Psoriatic–Atopic Dermatitis Overlap: A Four‑Case Series

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Overlap between psoriasis and atopic dermatitis (AD) poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges; monoclonal antibodies targeting a single axis may improve one component while worsening the other [1]. Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors act pleiotropically and may provide simultaneous control of psoriatic and eczematous inflammation [2].

Thiamidol containing treatment regimens in facial hyperpigmentation: An international multi‐centre approach consisting of a double‐blind, controlled, split‐face study and of an open‐label, real‐world study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2020
Tyrosinase is the rate‐limiting enzyme in melanogenesis. Thiamidol is the most potent inhibitor of human tyrosinase out of 50 000 tested compounds. In clinical studies, it was shown to improve facial hyperpigmentation, post‐inflammatory hyperpigmentation
